The DuPage County Historical Museum opened here in 1967 and holds two galleries with permanent exhibits charting the story of the county, and three for temporary exhibits.

One key topic is the role of the railways in local development, and theres a historic HO gauge model to check out. The museum has a rich variety of events and programs, offering tours, summer camps and an annual fundraising casino night.

Analysis confirmed six features of successful aging: a sense of purpose, interactions with others, personal growth, self-acceptance, autonomy, and health. Recreation Therapy uses this knowledge to incorporate creative activity to contribute to successful aging by fostering a sense of competence, purpose, and growth. Purposeful involvement also facilitates successful aging by encouraging the development of problem-solving skills, motivation, and perceptions that translate into a practical creativity in the way these individuals manage their everyday lives.

Billy Graham Center Museum

The Christian evangelist Billy Graham made an inestimable impact on the culture of the United States, spending six decades on television and serving as spiritual adviser to every president from Truman to Obama.

Graham graduated from the evangelical Wheaton College in 1943, and the museum in his honor opened here in 1981.

The colleges bible and theology classes take place here, but for visitors the museum also offers plenty of insight into Grahams career and ministry, as well as the broader history of Christian evangelism in the United States.

Boys Swimming: Scouting Dupage County

Neuqua Valley boys swimming coach Chad Allen beams when he talks about senior Aiden Dunn.

“Individually, the work has put in the last three years has been remarkable,” Allen said of Dunn, who swims the 200- and 500-yard freestyle. “As a freshman, I would not have guessed he would be this good. He was the one guy over the whole COVID thing that stuck with it. He was finding pools.”

It’s that kind of work ethic, even in the midst of a pandemic, that has put Dunn in a position to do some special things this winter for the Wildcats, and into the college ranks.

Oddly, it was a group of collegians that helped him improve, thanks to a switch from his longtime club, Fox Valley Swimming, to FMC, which boasts a new facility in Westmont, where the IHSA state swimming and diving meet will be held Feb. 26-27.

“We had a bunch of Princeton athletes come train with us,” Dunn said. And yes, it’s that Princeton — the Ivy League school. Many of the Tigers took a gap year due to the pandemic and spent time swimming at the FMC Natatorium, because the FMC and Princeton head coaches are friends.

“Every day it was something new,” Dunn recalled. “They had paces they knew off the back of their hands … If you want to get this time, here’s how you do it. They taught me to have fun with the sport and challenge yourself and the others around you.”
