Things To Do In Downtown Wisconsin Dells

The Original Duck Tours

Things to Do In Wisconsin Dells

A total Wisconsin Dells staple. You cant come and not do the Original Wisconsin Ducks! The Ducks are old amphibious WWII boats that can go in water and on land. The one we road in literally could have been the same one I road in as a kid almost 30 years ago

The trip is a little over an hour long and they take you through a forest and out into the Wisconsin River, then back onto land, and over into Lake Delton. The ride is fun, the scenery is beautiful , and the drivers are pretty funny too!

Tip 3 Visit During The Week

As adults, we arent necessarily tied to school times. If you can book a few days off and visit during the week, therell be less people and more adult friendly! We drove up on a Thursday evening, staying Thursday and Friday nights. Friday morning was pretty relaxed, the waterparks were fairly empty, but by Friday evening/Saturday the masses arrived.

Just make sure you double check with opening times of attractions. At the Wilderness Resort, on Thursday only 3 out of 4 indoor waterparks were open, on Friday the 4th opened up late in the afternoon and on the Saturday everything was operating as usual. But this does vary throughout the winter season.

The Wilderness also offer discounted weekday stays if you visit Wisconsin Dells in winter/off season!

If all else fails, The Sundara Inn and Spa is a complete adults only hotel but it does seem to cost a small fortune to stay there!

Riverside And Great Northern Railway

The Riverside and Great Northern Railway is a living museum dedicated to operating and preserving locomotives and passenger cars made by the Sandley Light Railway Equipment Works from 19501980. Opened in 1990 and almost entirely volunteer-run, this light railway’s buildings and cars have been lovingly preserved and restored and offer steam train rides to interested visitors.

The ride is a favorite of children and adults and winds through a 3-mile course through woodlands and canyons and beside the magnificent rock faces that front the Wisconsin River. The museum has trains to look at and tour, informed docents to answer questions, and a train memorabilia and souvenir shop.

Wilderness Canyon Zip Line Tour

Forget your worries and take a zip over the wilderness! Ziplining is an adventure you should try at least once in your life but thats my opinion. The first zipline I ever did, I was hooked. Now, I consider myself a zipline junky and got the T-shirt. My husband not so much. Hes never done it since. But, if youre up for the adventure, Wilderness Canyon Zipline Tour is the place to try it. Youll have hands-on training before heading up the stairs and a total of 6 lines to zip down. Of course, with most zip line tours, climbing stairs is part of it if not stairs, then steep hills, so prepare yourself for a climb.

When you are in Wisconsin in the summer or winter you cant not go to the Water Park Capital of the World! There are literally countless things to do in Wisconsin Dells with kids! Everything from the most thrilling waterslides to an upside-down White House. Yeah, they got that too.

Having grown up in Wisconsin we have visited multiple times since I was a kid and one of the cool things about it is so many of the things havent changed. It has a very nostalgic feel to it.

That being said, the waterparks are top notch, and have been updated over the years and a few new ones are on the scene now too. You and your kids will love all the awesome water slides and rides along with the wave pools, lazy rivers, and of course, Go-Karts!

Being that Wisconsin Dells is in Wisconsin and the state is only warm for about 2 1/2 months out of the year you will appreciate that there are a ton of amazing indoor waterparks too.

The nice thing about that is if you stay at a hotel in the summer with an indoor waterpark and you get a rainy day or are looking for a day or afternoon out of the sun you can hit up the indoor parks and have just as much fun as you would have at the outdoor parks.
