Leaving For Destin Tomorrow But It Looks Like Rain

We are leaving for Destin tomorrow but it looks like it will be raining all week while we are down there. What are some fun things to do with the family if we cannot go to the beach? I have a 4 yr old and a 9 year old. Definitely want to entertain them and have some memories even if it is not at the beach.

We are staying in Sanddestin area.

Thanks for your help

Pay no attention to the long range weather reports. Its mostly just scattered showers this time of year and mostly afternoon and last only an hour or two. Unless theres a tropical storm in the Gulf I wouldn’t worry. Have a great time.

If you look to the right of the page you will see Top questions about Destin – included in them is one about the rain and another about things to do in Destin. This should give you a start.

We had rain every day in our forecast for our trip in August and it didn’t ever rain but once for about 30 minutes one afternoon. Had the best weather. Pay no attention to forecasts.

We are here . Beautiful day yesterday . Rained late afternoon . Looking like today will be great too .

I’m so glad the rain is skirting Destin for the most part and I hope the weather pattern holds. It’s been raining here since Aug 26! I’m longing for some sunny beach days. We waded through June grass under cloudy skies our last two trips so I’ve been hoping nature would provide the same glorious conditions this fall that Destin has enjoyed all summer. Two weeks and counting down 🙂

Leaving For Destin Tomorrow After Work

Any must see or must do – or must eat at places????

Can’t wait!

It’s our first time down. We’ll be road tripping it from Bentonville, AR

Destin Jetties and also check out Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa Island!

Here are sme other ideas:

I second snorkeling! Eat at McGuire’s. If you have an extra day and want to get away from the beach, go to the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola it’s a first class attraction.

I second McGuire’s, and on your way in divert to the US Air Force Armament Museum, it’s close and free to drive thru…this is different than the naval museum in Pensacola

Pontoon boat to Crab Island

Baytowne Wharf

hours and hours of snorkeling…I could do that all day long and you don’t necessarily have to go to the jetties…just gear up, step in, and go

Here’s a few places to stop and rest between Ft. Smith and LR. Enjoy your trip.

Get off I 40 at Exit 325 at Ft. Smith, AR and go E on Robert Pine Blvd. which turns into Garrison Ave. when you cross the river. Go to Rolando’s Restaurante for outstanding Mexican cuisine for lunch or dinner. If you prefer BBQ go to Neumeier’s Rib Room just down the street.

Here are a few places with good road food in Conway, AR near I 40.

Take the I 59 bypass around Hattiesburg. Don’t go downtown on # 49. But don’t miss the # 98 when you get S of Hattiesburg. Go straight and you will end up in New Orleans. Bear right and turn E on the overhead bypass to # 98.

Zula Life Vacation Homes

We stayed at this amazing vacation home that was a short walk to the beach . The house had plenty of room for multiple families to stay along with a long Kitchen table, big couch and plenty of outside sitting. Plus our favorite part was the hot tub and pool. We spent a lot of time just hanging out back there.

The house is located just a couple minutes from Hwy 98 where you have all the stores that you would need. Yet is in a quiet neighborhood without a lot of traffic. The driveway was also large enough that we could park our 21 foot travel trailer there when we stayed it was so nice not to have to leave the rig somewhere plus we didnt have to pack since everything was right there in the driveway!

Honestly it was hard to leave the house to go do anything! If you are coming with your family or planning a multi family trip be sure to check out Zula Life or any of their other properties: Zula Dreams and Zula Beach.

Our Famous White Beaches

The beaches that compare to the Emerald Coast are few and far between. Destin is home to magnificent white-sugar sand beaches that make visiting here unforgettable! The powdery grains of sand make a distinctive “squeak” noise as you walk through to find your ideal spot. But did you know that Destin gets its unique white sand from the Appalachian Mountains? Our sand is made up of bits of quartz crystals that have been washed off the Appalachian Mountains for thousands of years. As it is carried through rivers, it eventually finds its way to the Gulf of Mexico. It ultimately finds its home in Destin, making our beaches something truly majestic.
