Great Food At Skippers Pier
Our food was about ready to come out when we returned to our table. Our waitress, Maddie, was very nice and accommodating. When we ordered, she answered our questions about the menu and was very helpful.
Tony Ordered Taste of the Bay Trio
Tony ordered one of Skippers Piers Signature Dishes, Taste of the Bay Trio, which included Old Bay rockfish with a grilled corn salsa over fried green tomatoes, garlic buttered broiled oysters and a petite crab cake. He also ordered a side salad with blue cheese dressing.
The salad came out first and it was fresh and tasted good. Then came Tonys entree which was plated beautifully! Tony said the rockfish was delicious and he loved the combination of flavors, the oysters were well prepared and bursting with flavor, and the crab cake was also very tasty and nicely seasoned. He said he would order this again.
I ordered Captains Fish Tacos which came with rockfish, grilled corn salsa, avocado, pickled red onion and a delicious and spicy sauce with a kick, in soft flour tortillas. I ordered my tacos with fried rockfish. I received a generous amount of food and enjoyed every bite! I even shared a taco with Tony, who also enjoyed it!

Herrington Harbor Historic Museum
Just past the Deale Road restaurants is an Historic Village and Deale Area Museum at the entrance of Herrington Harbour North Marina .
The marina owners, Steuart and Hamilton Chaney, collect local 19th century buildings.
It started in the late 1980s when Steuart bought the one-room schoolhouse where his great-aunt taught and moved it to Traceys Landing, just outside Deale.
Since then, the Chaneys have added a log smokehouse, an African-American meeting house, along with an outhouse for show only .
- Smokehouse circa 1820
- Nutwell School circa 1891
- Inside the school house
The meeting house was actually an African-American beneficial society building. Before insurance, people paid into beneficial societies for sickness- and burial-benefits. This society lasted until 1983.
The building collection has been there since the 1980s. But it wasnt until the Deale Historical Society was formed in 2005 that the museum came together.
had the museum, but nobody to show it, says Ruth Hazen, Deale Area Historical Society Collections Manager. We had the time, the docents and the artifacts, and so it makes a good marriage.
Awaiting renovation across the road is a slave cabin and tobacco barn.
- Former slave cabin awaiting renovation
- Tobacco barn
Renovation of a Greek Orthodox chapel is underway, but its still in the fixer-upper area across the road from the museum.
The buildings are open only when a volunteer docent is available.
Its not very pleasant here in the winter, says Ruth.

The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum is home to the most comprehensive, most historic, and oldest American railroad collections anywhere in the world. Dating back to the beginnings of the railroad in the United States, the museum collection includes historic buildings, rolling stock and locomotives, and small items that document how the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad impacted the development and growth of early railroading. The collection covers nearly every aspect of the railroad industry, and is representative of the first, last, and best of rolling stock and locomotives, as well as ones that are the only one of their kind left in existence.

So Many Great Seating Choices At Skippers Pier
Covered Patio Seating with Great Views!
Tony and I opted to sit in the covered patio area, out of the sun. The roll up doors were wide open, allowing the fresh air in, and the views of creek were unobstructed and beautiful. We enjoyed watching the boat traffic go by!
Fabulous Waterfront Seating, Outside!
At Skippers Pier, outdoor, waterfront seating is also available, all with umbrellas offering shade from the sun. All with gorgeous views!
Indoor Seating with Window Views of Rockhold Creek!
Skippers Pier also offers air conditioned indoor seating for customers wanting to stay cool. This area offers window seats with beautiful views of the dock bar and creek! This indoor area also offers a small bar area with pub table seating.
Awesome Dock Bar Seating and Rooftop Seating with Amazing Views!
We decided to walk out to the dock bar, which is built over the water. This structure offers a really nice covered bar area with stools, plus additional seating. The roll up doors were open and the summer breeze was so amazing! Next time we come, we will opt for lunch or dinner in this awesome space, or above, on the roof top! From the roof top, there are breathtaking views of Rockhold Creek toward Herring Bay, and distant views into the Chesapeake Bay! And across the creek, beautiful views of Herrington Harbour will definitely catch your eye! This is a great outdoor space it really is gorgeous!
