We recently moved to the area and had seen this beautiful church which reminded me of Notre Dame. We stopped on a Monday morning to walk through. While it isn’t on the size scale of most Western European churches I’ve visited, it is equally impressive, especially the stained glass windows. We were surprised at what a phenomenally beautiful cathedral, which reminded us of Europe, could be found in Covington. It is indeed a treasure. The marble along with the intricate mosaics from Germany pair well with the Venetian glass and make this a must see if you are in Northern Kentucky.

Dine Aboard A Ferry At Ohio River

Spanning six states, the Ohio River is one of the longest bodies of water in the country and is a major tributary to the Mississippi River.

It’s the geographical feature that divides Kentucky and Ohio, cleaving in between the two states and creating a defined boundary.

Exploring this body of water is one of the favorite activities of both tourists and locals in Covington, with many businesses offering tours and boating trips along the length of the river.

Most of these are ferry rides that have lunch or dinner packages, and you get to visit some of the iconic points of interest and cultural destinations along the banks of the river.

So whether you want to travel in the middle of the day or during the sunset, you have many options to choose from.

For those feeling more adventurous, you can charter a fishing trip to one of the more isolated parts of the river with a seasoned local angler.

You can spend the whole day relaxing and trying to catch freshwater games, such as trouts, largemouth bass, and crappies.

Stay For A Few Hours At George Rogers Clark Park

George Rogers Clark Park is another waterside attraction located on the opposite end of Pioneer Park.

And while the latter offers peaceful experiences, George Rogers Clark Park is situated in a more boisterous neighborhood next to the Ohio River.

So you can expect bustling streets as well as the horns of boats as they travel along the nearby waterway.

But the sceneries are well worth the visit, as the park offers an interrupted view of the Cincinnati skyline and John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, which stands right next to the park.

There’s also a thick canopy of trees that creates shady spots in large areas of the attraction, making it a favorite place for families and friends.

For history buffs, you can explore the various sections of the part that house statues of prominent figures from this region of the US.

It’s a great way to learn history while staying in a gorgeous and relaxing location.

One of the best kept secrets in Cincinnati is actually hiding in plain sight. As you cross the Roebling bridge, which is famous in its own right, you will see huge murals on the wall on the Kentucky Riverbank, that are now termed the Roebling Murals. These beautiful murals trace the history of the area including bison migration pathways of old crossing the Ohio River, uncle Tom’s Cabin story of Eliza the slave escaping across the Ohio River, and paintings of Roebling Bridge architect John Roebling who went on to design the Brooklyn Bridge in nearly identical fashion. The view from the murals, of the great Ohio River, the highlights of the architecture over on the Cincinnati shoreline, and the Roebling bridge itself are simply outstanding and photogenic, in any season. Stop over and have a scenic view with a history lesson that can be enjoyably absorbed. I have brought numerous international visitors, scholars and students to see this spectacular site, and they all insist on its being a great spot.
