After lunch, we headed to a nearby trail to discover a mysterious forest troll. Our walk didnt disappoint and we found a very cool work of local art tucked into the trees along the trail.
This 15-foot tall wooden troll sculpture named Isak Heartstone is located on the Trollstigen Trail in Breckenridge, Colorado. You can find the trailhead at the southeast corner of the Stephen C. West Ice Arena parking lot, also next to Illinois Gulch Trailhead.

In Central Village, there are many options from C.B. Grille Fine Dining to pizza, sushi, grilled cheese, and even an Irish Pub. And, happy hours abound, with deals like $3 local craft beers at Eagle BBQ. Just be careful because alcohol makes an impact much faster at higher altitude!
Ute Mountain Tribal Park
Ute Mountain Tribal Park near Cortez is only open to the public through a unique program in which Ute guides navigate visitors into the wilderness that abuts Mesa Verde National Park‘s southern boundary. This land was home to Ancestral Puebloans 1,000 years ago, who built cliff dwellings and irrigated and farmed the land. With only 1,300 visitors per year, Ute Mountain is undeveloped and quiet. Hike narrow trails and climb steep ladders onto high ledges and feel like you have the place to yourself.

While the parents were enjoying lunch and drinks and music in the park at Ten Mile Tavern in the center of the Copper Mountain Village and at the base of some of the ski runs, the kids were having fun playing a lot of games that were scattered around the square:
- tossing a volley ball into barrels – similar to the game where you try to throw a ping pong ball into a cup and if you make it the other team has to chug a drink
- bean bag toss
- shuffleboard and more

Where To Stay In Copper Mountain
Copper Mountain offer many on-mountain lodging options from studio rooms, two-bedroom condos, three-bedroom condos and vacation homes. All can be booked through a central reservations and check-in. We were put up in a two-bedroom, two-bath condo at Copper One, a building conveniently located in Central Village.
As with each ski resort, you should do a little research on which lifts and runs you want to center yourself around, but in the summer, Central Village is where it is happening. The only thing to note is that music is piped through the village for most of the day and into the evening, so if you are late risers, nappers, or early to bed, you may want something not as central so the music doesnt disturb you. Also, when live music events are going on at the base of the mountain, it can be loud, even inside.
Our condo was equipped with everything we would need and more. Each bedroom had a flat screen TV, as well as one in the living area. The living space was also equipped with a pull out couch, so the unit could technically sleep six. One bathroom was off the living area, next to the second bedroom, while the other was ensuite with the master.
There was very little difference between the two bedrooms except that one had the ensuite bathroom with a two-sink vanity, while the other you had to go outside the room to a slightly smaller bathroom.
Walk Down To The Lake
Once our RV was set up at our camp site, we wasted no time in walking down to the local waterfront at Dillon Reservoir. This spacious lake is set picturesquely at the base of nearby mountains and provides gorgeous lake views, especially at sunset. Our kids eagerly scrambled down the unofficial trail to the waterfront.
We really enjoyed exploring the easy trails down to Dillon Reservoir, or Lake Dillon. Our kids, Kiera, Sylvie and Joshua are always eager to venture down hiking slopes and climb over rocks. They were delighted walk down to the lake so close to our camp site. We spent quite a bit of time exploring and enjoying the pretty lakeviews. Dillon Reservoir is a large fresh water reservoir located in Summit County, Colorado. Its a gorgeous destination for boating, paddleboarding and kayaking. Next time well have to bring our kayaks!

Rv Camping At Prospector Campground
Once we arrived in Colorado, we camped for several days at Prospector Campground, near Dillon Reservoir in Summit County. Our camp site did not have hook-ups for our RV. However, we are used to dry camping and using our RVs water supply and generator. I was especially impressed with our spacious camp site, which was located on a loop near other RV sites and plenty of tent camping sites. In our current young family stage of life, RV camping is very empowering. Once we set up our RV toy hauler, we can easily explore the outdoors and do all sorts of family activities. At the end of an active day filled with family adventures, we love coming back and sleeping in our comfy RV beds at night. Our RV also allows us to maintain somewhat of a schedule for our kids for meals and bedtime.
