Day Trip To La Paz And Swim With Whale Sharks

La Paz may be a two-hour drive from Cabo San Lucas, but it is close enough for a day trip. La Paz is very different from Cabo and frequently visited for excursions to swim with whale sharks.

The name whale shark is misleading because they are not sharks or whales at all. Whale sharks are the largest fish in the world! They are gentle and majestic creatures. The photo below was taken underwater while swimming next to a whale shark

Tours to swim with whale sharks are available for as little as $50 from La Pazs marina. You can also get a tour from Cabo but most companies will charge $180 or more per person which is a steep price for some. You may get a better deal with this tip below:

  • I found a great deal with a tour guide by Travel Los Cabos who took me to La Paz to swim with whalesharks and visit Balandra Beach. I recommend contacting them and let them know Little Birdie Travel sent you for the best deal. You can find Travel Los Cabos on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/travelloscabos/ or find them on Instagram @TravelLosCabos. Plus, they arrange airport pick-ups and all kinds of tours near Cabo.

Los Cabos is known for, among other things, its amazing taquerias. If you want to enjoy the best street tacos in Cabo San Lucas specifically, youll want to head to Tacos Guss, located just a block from the marina on Lazaro Cardenas.

As soon as you arrive, youre greeted with an assortment of salsas. Every taco includes a platter of ingredients like pico, onions, cilantro, and lime, so you can prepare your tacos exactly as you like them. Their tacos al pastor are to die for, as are the skirt-steak tacos. Other flavors include beef, chicken, chorizo, tripe, and lengua. To put the area in perspective, the two main cities in Los Cabos are Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.

Cabo is often used to refer to the whole area, and sometimes just to Cabo San Lucas, but we use Cabo here to refer to the general destination.

Cabo Pulmo is an absolute haven for snorkeling and its only about an hour and a half from Cabo.

The road that takes you out that way isnt the best, so unless youve rented a 4×4, its best to take a tour that will pick you up in Cabo San Lucas and take you out and back to Cabo Pulmo.

Of course, there are plenty of snorkeling tours that you can do right in downtown Cabo if you dont want to make the trip. You can find those all over town when you are exploring Cabo San Lucas. Any tour company in town can book a short snorkeling trip for you.

However, any local will tell you that the absolute best snorkeling in all of Baja California Sur is to be had in Cabo Pulmo. It is one of the most biodiverse waters in the world with so many different species to see all in one place.

Chow Down On Seafood Tacos

One of the funny facts about Mexican food weve discovered is that there are ho-hum tacos.

And then there are seriously mouth-watering tacos!

After trying various places, weve found the best tacos in Cabo San Lucas are to be had at Gardenias.

Once a true hole-in-the-wall, this taco joint has tidied itself up over the years to attract even taxis of high-heeled, mini-skirted, 20-something tourists who come for a bite before going clubbing.

But Mama still works in the kitchen and takes taco orders.

We sometimes mix it up and order the fish tacos. The fresh shrimp tacos are still our favorite though.

The tacos come with all the fixings on the side, and you can specify corn or flour tortillas.

Oh, and theyre so inexpensive too some $2 or $3 USD each, depending on what you get.

Wash that down with a good strong margarita.

Tacos back home will never taste the same

If youve got a real crush on tacos, this Cabo taco tasting tour might tempt you.

Dont Get Help From The Guys Inside The Airport

There is an area before exiting the Los Cabos Airport that has been referred to as the gauntlet. After leaving Customs and Immigration you will exit through automatic doors into another room where you will find a swarm of individuals offering to help you.

These individuals will be very helpful and offer to help you find a taxi, shuttle, resorts, tours, carry your luggage, etc. Just smile and keep walking because their goal is to convince you to attend a timeshare presentation. They are a convincing bunch with resort or shuttle names on their shirts, but again, smile and walk, walk, walk until you get outside. The people outside are the legitimate shuttle or hotel representatives.

There are lots of great nightlife spots around Cabo San Lucas, but if you enjoy live music, you cant miss at least one night at Cabo Wabo.

Scuba Diving In The Sea Of Cortez

The Sea of Cortez has captured the imagination of travelers for years, and even Jacques Cousteau nicknamed it the Aquarium of the World. Of all the outdoor winter activities at sea, scuba diving is the best way to explore these famous waters, and after the rains of the fall have blown away, scuba diving is one of the best things to do in Cabo in December. When you dive near Cabo San Lucas, youll spot sea lions, octopi, sea turtles, and even whale sharks swimming along the coral reefs and sandfalls. Its only while diving under the sea on a winter beach vacation that you can experience all these wonders.

Watch A Sunset From Land’s End

Nope, we’re not talking about the area in San Francisco, although the rock formation in Cabo San Lucas is somewhat similar. You’ll find this breathtaking and famous view in the southern area of Cabo, where two of its most iconic and strategically named beaches meet: Playa del Amor and Playa del Divorcio.

Most travelers who enjoy a sandy vacation will stay in this area since it offers the most shoreline to sunbathe or swim. Couples are often spotted capturing sunset selfies here, since the view from between the rocks is unparalleled with any other viewing spot. If you want to get up close and personal, you can take a water taxi or a boat tour to see Land’s End from the sea.
