The county is full of many historic stone buildings built in the 1700s and early 1800s. Many of them have earned spots on the National Register of Historic Places thanks to their significance.

A driving tour connects the stone houses, or they can be seen individually. Some, like the Buckingham Friends Meeting House that dates from 1768, are open to the public. Others, like the London Purchase Farm that served as the headquarters for General Henry Knox and Captain Alexander Hamilton during the American Revolution, are private homes. If youre hoping to actually visit one of the buildings, check its status before you go.

Enjoy A Picnic At Sesame Place

Nestled on the outskirts of Philadelphia in Middletown, Sesame Place is an amusement park with many fun activities for kids. The park is equipped with facilities such as water slides, rides, an interactive parade, and Elmoâs World to keep the kids engaged. One of the most exciting features is Oscarâs Wacky Taxi â the most thrilling and breathtaking roller coaster. There will be many opportunities for the kids to take photos with furry friends. If you pack some snacks, there are many spots under the trees where you can sit and enjoy a bite. Or you can also get in one of the on-site restaurants and grab a bite.

Enjoy Delaware Canal State Park

At nearly 60 miles long, the towpath of Delaware Canal State Park connects historic towns, farms, and riverfront property spanning from Easton to Bristol. Its the perfect place for runners, walkers, and bikers on a nice day.

The state park itself is 830 acres, crossing two counties. In addition to the towpath, there is a 50-acre pond and 11 river islands, which keep the scenery interesting. Depending on the time of year, there are opportunities for fishing, hiking, boating, and cross-country skiing. The restored Locktenders House in New Hope has exhibits on the history of the canal locks, and the adjacent Lock 11 shows how boats moved through the waterway.

Smell The Blooms At Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve

Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve is a 134-acre nature preserve housing native flora from the region.

It has diverse landscapes and habitats consisting of meadows, ponds, grasslands, and forests, serving as home to more than 700 species of local plants.

The best way to appreciate the many sceneries here is by exploring the trails crisscrossing the preserve.

You can also join some of the educational tours and programs, where you can learn more about the species present and the efforts being made to preserve them.

And because of the area’s relative pristineness, many birds come to the site to hunt and rest, making for an exciting experience for birdwatchers.

Holidays At Peddler’s Village

Peddlers Village is full of holiday spirit during the wintertime, offering many different experiences throughout this festive season. Kickoff the season Nov. 19 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the courtyard. The festivities extend through Nov. 21 with a variety of live entertainment throughout the village, including carolers, strolling performers, and other holiday surprises during merchants open house weekend.

And throughout the season, visitors can still stroll through the enchanted lit up Village, sip tasty beverages, enjoy fine dining and casual fare, see over 100 handmade gingerbread houses, ride a 1920s carousel and play in the arcade.

Victorian Holiday House Tour At Grundy Museum

The Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Museum is offering its 2nd Annual Victorian Holiday House. Local business owner Jimmy Bason Gilpatrick and his staff of Bird of Paradise Flowers, have once again partnered with the Grundy staff to lavishly decorate the museum’s ground floor.

Tours will be offered throughout the month of December. Daytime tours will be held Monday through Thursday and Saturdays. Evening tours will be held on Fridays. Cost for tours will be $20 per adult admission and $10 per child admission . Friday evening tours will have staggered start times, with docent led tours beginning every half hour.

All tours will consist of a 45 minute docent led tour. Each guest will receive a takeaway gift to celebrate the season.

All proceeds benefit the Grundy Foundation CanDoMore Campaign 4, which focuses on the conservation of select Grundy family textiles and the purchase of new state-of-the-art 3D printing technologies for the Grundy Library.

‘a Very Furry Christmas’ Hanukkah And Kwanza At Sesame Place

A Very Furry Christmas Celebration at Sesame Place is a festive, family-friendly celebration. The park is transformed into a one-of-a-kind Christmas wonderland with millions of twinkling lights and festive decorations all around.

At the center of the 1-2-3 Christmas Tree show, is a 30-foot fully-illuminated pixel-based tree, that will project festive animated images while guests can dance along to a festive holiday soundtrack all making for the ultimate light show experience. Take a photo with Santa, visit the new Christmas Family Fun Zone.

Guests visiting the park on Nov. 28, Dec. 3, 4, and 5 can join in on a Hanukkah celebration and learn more about the Jewish Festival of Lights story, listen to traditional music, and watch the Menorah Lighting Ceremony. The celebration will be led by a local cantor, Grover, and Baby Bear, who celebrate Hanukkah with their families.

Guests can also join their favorite Sesame Street friends each night of Kwanzaa, Dec. 26-Jan. 1, for a special storytime and Kinara lighting while learning about the celebrations and principles of Kwanzaa. These special events are included with park admission.

Fonthill was the eclectic and eccentric home of Henry Chapman Mercer. It is an autobiographical representation of his life as an archaeologist, historian and leader of the American Arts and Crafts Movement. The design was drawn from his readings, his travels and his own fertile imagination. The castle was constructed using poured concrete and comprises 44 rooms, 32 staircases and 18 fireplaces. There are more than 200 windows of varying shapes and sizes that bring light into the multiplicity of interior spaces. Tiles that he made and collected around the globe are used extensively. There are are 7000 prints on the walls and 6000 of his books in the library.

Train And Trolley Pumpkin Festival

Bring the whole family together and spend a day enjoying the fall weather at the East Broad Top Railroad and Rockhill Trolley Museum for the Train and Trolley Pumpkin Festival.

Saturday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 24, the museum will offer a scenic train ride and a trolley ride to a pumpkin patch! The scenic train will depart at 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on both days. There is an additional departure at 4 p.m. only on Saturday. The train ride is a scheduled departure, passengers will have the option of riding on the trolley trip at any time throughout the day.

Tickets will cost $13 for those ages 13 and up and for those under 13, tickets will cost $14. Kids under the age of 2 will ride free as a lap child.

Tickets include both the train and trolley ride. The entire trip will last approximately two hours.

We love the wind/air area, as well as the section dedicated to the history of the Delaware River Canal.

After you visit the museum, take the time to walk around the town of New Hope. Between the delicious restaurants and unique shops, you can spend a whole day there!
