Highline Railroad Park And Playground

A great Breckenridge activity for the family is the Highline Railroad Park and Playground. Train enthusiasts will be enchanted by the Engine No. 9 train stationed at the park, which serves as a reminder of the days when locomotives made the perilous journey through the mountain passes of Colorado. Several more historic train cars are on display, and theres even a train-themed playground where kids can spend hours exploring. Although the exhibit is free, the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance, which operates the park, does suggest a $5 donation. To get there, head south on Main Street until you hit Boreas Pass Road. Other Things To Know About Breckenridge Co

  • Taxes are high. This translates to your taxes on food and lodging.
  • Things are expensive. These mountain towns come with a premium price tag. While you can find free and cheap options, know that like many touristy places, things are just more expensive up here.
  • Buy your groceries elsewhere. For the reason above, we bring the bulk of our groceries from Denver. Hit up Costco on your way up. There is a Walmart in Frisco and a couple of grocery options, but its best to use those options for the things you forgot to bring instead of all of your groceries.
  • Road construction is constant. Weve never been to Breck when there wasnt some kind of construction. Seriously. They are always improving, expanding, and repairing. The severe weather shifts mean the roads need lots of TLC over the summer.
  • Masks have been required everywhere. On our last visit, mask policies were strictly enforced, even outside. All of Main Street was blocked off to allow outdoor dining and masks were required in all parts, indoor and out. *update: I think this has FINALLY relaxed! Woo hoo! See COVID updates here.*
  • Main Street parking. Parking at 505 S. Main is the best for exploring downtown. Its under the complex with the escape room and is a great starting point. You can also park in the large ski lots near the gondola.
  • Horseback Riding Guided Tour

Summer and fall are the best times to go horseback riding. Horseback riding is a great family friendly activity when in Breckenridge in the summer with kids. The best way to enjoy horseback riding is to book a tour.

We booked our horseback riding tour through Breck Stables. Aiden was looking forward to being able to ride and handle his own horse and he was able to. Kids 6 and older are able to ride their own horse which is great.
