The Best Time To Visit Breckenridge

Breckenridge is an amazing spot to visit year-round, but there are definitely two distinct seasons. Summer is the busiest time in Breckenridge. But with good reason. Most attractions are open. Not to mention Breck blooms with wildflowers in July.

Winter is another popular time since Breckenridge offers some of the best skiing near Denver. Snowy activities focus on the 4 nearby ski resorts. For this reason, many people consider Breck one of the top ski towns in Colorado.

During summer and winter, Breck can be crowded well get to that in a second and expensive.

Fall is another busy time, but not quite as bad as winter and summer. September tends to be busy with local travelers looking to enjoy the fall colors in Colorado. October and November are particularly quiet and a great time to enjoy Breckenridge activities if you want to beat the crowds.

Spring is generally quiet too. The long lift lines of winter are gone , but its not quite warm enough to enjoy summer activities.

Local Tip: Snow doesnt melt at the higher elevations in Breckenridge until early June, so plan accordingly.

The Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships occur every January in this lovely Colorado town.

Participants arrive in teams from across the globe to build impressive snow sculptures with all their creativity!

Each competing team receives a 12-foot snow cube weighing 25 tons.

These cubes are packed by volunteers through the act of stomping during Stomping Week, an event that takes place across the town!

The Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships have been a yearly tradition since 1990.

A total of 250 different four-person teams compete, and the best 16 of them are selected for the final championship.

The teams use all manner of tools to create huge sculptures depicting various themes out of their allotted snow.

They must ensure that their sculptures remain standing and that they are finished by the deadline on Day 5 of the contest.

This amazing event has been one of the local tourist attractions since it began.

As a member of the audience, youll see gorgeous creatures, scenery, abstract works, and other structures made by the teams.

Visit Brecks Funky Shops

Breck has lots of fun and unique shops. My favorite is Marigolds Farmhouse Funk and Junk. You never know what youll find there, or at Ole Man Berkins Bookstore. This local used bookstore is a bit off the beaten path, and a bit off in general, which is what I love. If you need a card to send to your ex who just broke up with you, this is the place to find it.

Relax At Sawmill Reservoir

The tranquil Sawmill Reservoir is a 10-acre lake just west of downtown Breckenridge. The lake sits at a lofty 9,938 feet above sea level and is wreathed in White River National Forest.

Hiking to the reservoir is one of the most popular things to do in Breckenridge, especially in the summer, but it’s also a very easy drive from downtown if you’re pressed for time, or simply want to relax.

Once you reach the parking lot, the reservoir is a quick stroll along a wildflower-strewn path. The area is absolutely stunning, with nothing but mountain views and pine trees. In the summer months, you can expect to see non-motorized boats skimming across the water, like stand up paddleboards, canoes, and kayaks.

Fishing is permitted in the reservoir for visitors 16 and older with a valid Colorado fishing license. The waters are teeming with rainbow trout, as well as a few other trout species.

A 1.3-mile trail loops around the water, which is often surrounded by wildflowers, as well.

The Breckenridge Snow Sculpture Championship

Towards the end of January people from around the world come together to compete at making snow sculptures. Just like the World Championship of Sand Sculpting, the snow sculptures are works of art and take hours to complete.

If you would like to look at these marvelous works of art in the flesh, check your calendar and make sure that your trip aligns with the snow sculpture dates. This is a must see event in the winter one of the BEST things to do in Breckenridge during the winter months.
