The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History gives visitors a chance to learn about the ecological and historic significance of the eastern arm of Massachusetts. For a small museum, it covers a lot of topics exhibits feature archaeology, native peoples, and birds, among other important elements of the history of Cape Cod, so there really is something for everyone. The museum also stewards over 400 acres of conservation land, on which there are trails that visitors can take to experience the landscape of the region up close.
Chatham Best Area In Cape Cod For Families
When we talk about great family-friendly destinations, basically everywhere in Lower Cape is worth considering. So, why Chatham? It is right in the heart of the area, so great for transport, and has a laid-back coastal vibe. Its also the most convenient in terms of shopping and dining.
Beyond Chatham, you will find even more easy-going villages and unique attractions. Brewster and Harwich are both worth considering for day trips to keep the kids entertained, with family-friendly water sports and local farms to discover.

Things To Do In Bourne
4 miles W of Sagamore 16 miles NW of Hyannis
Bourne, encompassing seven villages, hugs Buzzards Bay on both sides of the Cape Cod Canal. The town has changed quite a bit since President Grover Cleveland moved to Bourne more than 100 years ago. Evidently attracted by the trout, he decided to set up his summer White House at Monument Beach in the 1890s. That house is long gone, but one vestige — his personal train station — is on view at the Aptucxet Trading Post Museum, a reconstructed version of this country’s first place of commerce, where Pilgrims traded with Native Americans and the Dutch. Also visible from here — and from the Cape Cod Canal bike path, which runs right past the post — is the intriguing vertical lift Railroad Bridge its track moves up or down to permit the passage, respectively, of ships or trains. Cataumet, with its winding roads, is the most upscale village in Bourne. The village of Buzzards Bay, its somewhat dingy Main Street paralleling the canal, has most of the shops.
Falmouth Where To Stay In Cape Cod On A Budget
The second most populous town in Cape Cod, Falmouth is the beating heart of Upper Cape. This is where Cape Cod joins on to the rest of the country, so youll find food costs are slightly lower here. Its also a great spot to grab bargain accommodation especially if youre visiting off-season.
Its not just great for budget travellers, though! Falmouth is where you can grab the ferry to Marthas Vineyard. Its among the most expensive places to travel in the USA, but taking a day trip is a great way to experience it without breaking the bank.

Some even come with kitchens so you can rustle up a coffee and breakfast in the morning. There is an outdoor swimming pool to splash around in, a large lawn garden where you can enjoy barbeques, plus a terrace to relax on. Outside the motel, West Dennis Beach is a short drive away.

This hotel is a great option when you just need to get away. Its adults-only, so you can be assured it has a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Its a five-star hotel, so youll have to splurge a little, but its totally worth it for the added extras. Besides a continental breakfast, guests can also enjoy sophisticated wine and cheese evenings.

Gaze Upon Brilliant Hydrangeas
The Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival is a ten-day-long event that takes place in July all across Cape Cod. These flowers, which range the rainbow in color, have a substantial blooming season, but theres no doubt that they are at their peak in the height of summer. This festival offers opportunities for attendees to go on private garden tours, participate in workshops and lectures, observe art inspired by these floral sensations, and more! Even if you cant attend the festival, hydrangeas are ubiquitous across the region in the summertime, so your eyes will be delighted when you find them.
Stroll Through The Heritage Museum And Gardens
An expansive 100 acre property in the town of Sandwich with stunning gardens. My favorite spot was the Hydrangea Gardens and though peak bloom was over, a few were hanging on strong.
In case you spend more time than anticipated at the property like I did, there is a cafe on site serving lite bites and refreshments.

Play A Round Of Minigolf
With mini golf destinations throughout the Cape, it wont be difficult to find a spot to grab a club and have a friendly competition, whether you play par or it takes a few extra strokes for your golf ball to find its destination. Enjoy a round at the classic Pirates Cove, located in South Yarmouth, or putt a round at Susans Garden Minigolf in Dennisport. PS: This would be an especially fun thing to do when visiting Cape Cod with kids!
Experience Provincetown And Check Out The Pilgrim Monument
What you might not know is that Plymouth isnt actually the first landing place of the pilgrims in 1620, its Provincetown! The monument was build in early 1900s to pay tribute to the landing.
Located on the tip of the Cape, Provincetown is a vibrant seaside town with a large LGBT community. Its also the place that Anthony Bourdain began his cooking career. Lobster Pot and Ciro & Sals are two restaurants he spent time working in.

I’ve set the map so you can zoom in and out to view the whole length of the “Big Ditch” and the villages on either side.Bourne has shoreline not only along the Canal, but also on Cape Cod Bay to the east and Buzzards Bay to the west.

Bourne is about 235 miles from New York City and only 60 miles from Boston MA and Providence RI.

My favorite place to get great seafood, especially a monster lobster roll is the Raw Bar on Ocean Street in Hyannis. Their Roll is all lobster, no fillers! The restaurant is a really cool spot overlooking the harbor where you can watch the ferries load and unload. This is some seriously good food! Its consistently voted the number one place for fresh seafood in New England.
Black Cat Tavern
The Black Cat Tavern, on the docks of Hyannis Harbor, is another really great place for a meal. Its casual, yet lively seaside atmosphere and delicious, fresh food can be enjoyed either inside or outside on their heated patio. Their menu has everything from salads to big, juicy burgers and steaks, and locally caught seafood. They also have a really nice Sunday Brunch, and entertainment a few nights a week.
Baxters Fish N Chips
When youre looking for the freshest fish n chips, check out Baxters. They have been family owned since 1957, and theyve been doing fresh fish right since then. Plus, you cant beat the views!
