Get Spooked At Ophir Historic District

Founded in 1870, Ophir, Utah was deserted when those in search of silver discovered there was no more silver. Glad to claim membership as a regular attender of SDRC – at least before COVID-19. I’ve not used the ice rink, sport court, or played racquetball, but I have used just about everything else. Great staff. Great equipment. Can’t wait to get back – especially to my early a.m. swims. Also appreciate the many events that are regularly organized.

Explore Ogdens Dinosaur Park

Ogdens George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park is a collection of more than one hundred lifelike dinosaur sculptures. The sculptures range in size and style, but all are true to scale and show the actual size of these creatures when they were alive. Some are outfitted with speakers, sounds, and realistic animation to bring the figures to life. The Dinosaur Park is best visited during spring and summer and is especially exciting for younger children who have an affinity for prehistoric creatures.

Based on actual fossil skeletons, you can find the sculptures throughout the park. Stroll along the walkways of this safe environment for children to learn and exercise as they explore the park with their parents. Located within Bountiful City Park, South Davis Recreation center features swimming pools, a water slide, an indoor track and an ice skating rink. The center offers fitness classes and can be used for sports including basketball, racquetball and volleyball.

Pumpkin Train Heber Valley Railroad

The pumpkin train starts on October 7th and goes through October 30th. It doesn’t run everyday though. You’ll ride in a historic coach for 40 minutes and get a free pumpkin.

The Heber Valley Railroad has other fun train rides in October too, like their Halloween train and Wizard’s train. We’re hoping to do them soon!

Central Utah Gardens Pumpkin Walk

If you want a quick activity, then you’ll want to check out the Pumpkin Walk. It’s fun to walk around and see all the carved pumpkins they have. Some of them are so intricate. This is a good activity for kids. I’m not sure if this activity will be happening in 2021 or not. Check their website as it gets closer to see.

We took the kids with us to this escape room and it was their first and second escape rooms ever, respectively. The game master was GREAT and very helpful and patient as well worked with the kids to learn. The room was a great theme, clever, and had a balanced level of difficulty. While we didnt get out in time, I felt the clues were strong, in theme, and enjoyable to work through. I am excited to go back for the second room! Nice job Big Brain Escape!!

Visit The Pumpkin Patch

There are tons of these in the area, but our favorites are Mabey Pumpkin Patch 10090 S 1000 W, South Jordan, UT 84095 and Kuwahara’s 12153 S 700 W, Draper, UT. Mabey opens the last weekend in September and stays open till Halloween. Kuwahara has really cool pumpkin walls to take pictures with. They open September 15, 2021.

Out With The Old In With The New

The Book Gardens main floor features extensive young adult, fiction, classics and a variety of other genres. Towards the back, the trade paperback section ranges from childrens books to westerns to you guessed it shelves upon shelves of romance novels. Head downstairs to keep browsing everything from mystery to fantasy, and to find a hardback section where every title costs exactly two dollars.

When customers bring in books to exchange for in-store credit, cashiers determine their value and clarify if the customer wants to keep any books that cant be accepted. One other option: The Book Garden team often collects these items and ensures that they are donated elsewhere.

In Jorgensens view, used bookstores continue to survive in an age of online shopping and chain bookstores because they offer things that larger booksellers cant.

For some, its a question of cost. Shoppers can go home with two full bags of books for the amount they might spend on the retail price of a few new releases. Other people, Jorgensen explained, just enjoy books that have been well-loved the hidden annotations, the dog-eared pages that hint at prior readers thoughts, the connection we feel when passing along a title that someone adores.

Drive The Alpine Loop

The Alpine Loop drive is a perfect Utah fall activity. The colors of the leaves on this drive are unreal! You’ll see every shade of red, orange, yellow, and green on this scenic drive. We always stop at Cascade Springs to walk around. There are little waterfalls here and a path to walk around. We brought a stroller last year and it worked, but was hard to push up some of the hills.
