Historic Hyde Park In Boise
The North End of Boise is home to our favorite area of Boise. Dont come to Hyde Park expecting to see an actual Park youll have to go to Camels Back Park for a park experience. Hyde Park is a neighborhood in Boise known for its history, architecture, and active community.
The historic homes, lively restaurants, and specialty shops give Hyde Park its quaint character and make it a great area to visit.
Getting To And Around Boise
Boises airport is relatively small, making it easy to get around. While its well positioned from the West Coast and Midwest, getting there from the East Coast usually means at least one connection. From Pittsburgh, it was about 7 hours of travel time each way and we connected in Denver. It was the longest flight I had alone with my son to date, and despite a few rough patches, we survived!
Boise offers public transportation via a the Valley Regional Transit bus system as well as Boise GreenBike, which is a bike sharing system with locations throughout the city. The easiest way to get around Boise is with a car, especially if youre going to be getting outdoors and/or exploring outside of downtown.
Experience Nature Up Close
Idahos largest zoo is Zoo Boise. Trekaroo families love the butterfly habitat, its location on the Boise Greenbelt, and that it is safe for little ones. Zoo Boise is open year round.
Over in Idaho Falls is Tautphaus Park Zoo. Located in the middle of Tautphaus Park, the beautiful grounds are as beckoning as the animals themselves. Tautphaus Park Zoo is open seasonally, so be sure to check before you go.
Trekaroo families are also enthusiastic about the Childrens Zoo in Idaho Falls where little ones can pet and experience life as one of the animals.

Visit The Idaho Botanical Garden And Winter Garden Aglow
I love the Idaho Botanical Garden all year round, but the winter season offers a unique family-friendly event that transforms the garden into a wonderland. This year, over 550,000 energy-efficient lights were hung across the gardens 14 acres. Bundle up, grab some hot chocolate at one of the food trucks, and wander around with your partner, kids, and/or friends! Visit The Idaho City Hot Springs
The Springs at Idaho City are conveniently located only an hour outside of Boise, and the proximity along with all of its amenities have made it a popular winter weekend destination. You can spend the whole day just soaking, drinking, eating, and lounging. There are also showers, towels, lockers, and a sauna in addition to a hot spring pool and extra-warm hot tub. Recently, though, I have felt that it gets a bit too crowded on the weekends, so I prefer to go after work on a weekday to really unwind and relax.

Float The Boise River
Floating the Boise River is maybe as summer in Boise as it gets. The river is not very deep where you float, and you are only allowed to do so once it gets very shallow, slow, and very safe.
To float the river in Boise, you will enter the river at Barber Park. There are companies that rent out intertubes and rafts, or you can bring your own .
You will get out of the river at Ann Morrison Park, and very important you need to get out when you are told to. There is a dam not long after the exit point and it is incredibly dangerous if you are still in the river.
That gives you a few hours of fun floating time. The river is cold, so be prepared for that, but if you are out on a hot day it feels great.
About a decade ago, the City of Boise began banning alcohol on the river, so make sure you leave your beer at home. But that doesnt mean you cant have a great time and enjoy a nice refreshing day on the Boise River.

Sharing is caring!
Boise is one of those places thats off the radar for many people on the East Coast. That is, of course, until you visit and are instantly drawn to the The Gem State like I was since the first time visiting my college roommate 14 years ago. Each time Im there, I love seeing how much Boise is growing, while still maintaining the scenic landscape that its known for. The outdoors, laid-back vibe and family-friendly feel make Boise a great place to visit with kids or without.
While Ive been to Boise a few times before, I love getting the chance to see any city with fresh eyes through my son. Boise was no exception. On our most recent trip, we were visiting a lifelong friend from college who had her first baby. Not only did our boys get to meet for the first time, but we had the best time exploring with the baby and toddler duo.
Our guide to Boise covers getting to and around the city, things to do with kids in Boise and great places to eat. Keep reading for more!
