Cave Without a Name is a prehistoric wonder located in central Texas, north of San Antonio. Eventually, in 1939, the landowner, Jim Horn, opened it as a tourist attraction. Visitors descend the 126 steps down to the cave floor, nearly 90 feet underground. Cave Without a Name consists of multiple well-lit rooms, the first 6 of which are open to the public. This is my favorite place to walk and train my dogs. It’s also a great place to put your kayak in and head down river. It’s a long journey to the bridge by water but you won’t be regret it. It’s amazing. They have bird and wildlife viewing areas complete with inside seating. The land is hard to find but very secluded which is why I go. The area is small but a great place to walk and walk. Some of the area by the river is quite steep and I would not recommend to an unseasoned hiker. There are two places you can walk down to the river without much effort. However, depending on river flow they are not always accessible. There are VERY steep incline areas that to avoid you must walk around on the “road.” We get in some great walks and when we leave the dogs are wiped out. They don’t provide poop bags so please bring your own and pick up after your pet. There is not always someone on site so make sure you take a cell phone as it’s pretty isolated out there. There are portapotties that are handicap accessible. The paths are well marked by the main office area. The area is relatively small so no worries, you won’t get lost. I honestly hate to provide a review because I don’t want it to get popular.
