What is there to do in Biloxi besides gamble? Apart from a beautifully-clean beach, watching gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, and enjoying the laid back vibe, theres plenty. From museums to dining to where to go for beautiful views, heres my list of the coolest best, and fun things to do in Biloxi with kids.

Disclosure: A huge thank you to Coastal Mississippi for hosting me this past spring. I was given lodging, meals, and complimentary Gulf Coast Attraction Passes to give you fine folks the scoop on fun things to do in Biloxi with kids. All opinions are my own!

If I can just side track my list for a minute, I have to share with you my military brat story. In the early 1960s, my father was stationed in Biloxi, MS. And for as long as I can remember, he talked about the lighthouse, the beach, and the good times had. So, Biloxi and Coastal Mississippi have been on my bucket list.

And while his tales and places visited definitely differ from mine compliments of Hurricane Katrina pretty much obliterating the area nearly 15 years ago, the rehabilitation for both beach and land is absolutely impressive.

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled program.

Splurge On A Meal At White Pillars Restaurant

For a more refined dining experience, make reservations at White Pillars Restaurant. Splurge on date night here or take the kids to a special weekend lunch or Sunday jazz brunch. Eleven-year-old Leo, a hamburger enthusiast, declared White Pillars Bone Marrow & Steak Burger the best hes ever tasted!

The restaurant is located within an impressive Neoclassical mansion, which was the home of a wealthy doctor and his family in the early 1900s. It later became a popular fine dining restaurant in the 1970s and 80s before it sat empty for nearly 30 years. Chef Owner Austin Sumrall and his wife have restored the building to its former Gone with the Wind-esque glory.

Why We Recommend Going Here

Its a national treasure, and often considered one of the worlds top museums. From the combat encounters to the home front efforts, this treasure trove lets you experience WWII in a variety of ways.

Educational and inspiring, the museum offers personal histories, soaring aircraft, a 4D cinematic journey and immersive exhibits. My favorite attraction is the USS Tang Submarine simulator experience.

Things You’re Missing In Biloxi Mississippi

This coastal town reinvented itself after Hurricane Katrina, and now it’s better than ever.

Alex North Photography

It took the Mississippi Gulf Coast a decade to recover from the history-making storm that virtually erased its beachfront. But the locals down there are a resilient bunch, and they took the massive challenge of rebuilding as an opportunity to enhance what they loved best about their waterfront towns. Some of Biloxi’s casino resorts, like Beau Rivage, got a multi-million-dollar remodel, with expanded restaurant and retail offerings. New restaurants have joined the old favorites, and there are lots of new attractions that make Biloxi worth the trip. If you haven’t rambled Beach Boulevard in a while, here’s what you’re missing:1. The new overlooking Deer Island brings vacationers a 23-story resort with a rooftop water complex that includes a 450-foot lazy river, 2 water slides, and swim-up bar. The resort also has a 40-foot climbing wall and the Cloud Coaster, an innovative cart-less roller coaster. Restaurants and bars include the LandShark Bar and Grill, Doe’s Eat Place, 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar, Margaritaville Restaurant, and The Lost Key Bar.

Southern Eats Along Gulf Coast

Top 10 Kid Friendly Activities in Gulfport, MS

It is in the culinary arena that the Southern charm I had been seeking was found. Casual, family-owned eateries dominate. Fresh seafood, very fair prices and large portions will put families at ease.

The Harbor View Cafe in Long Beach is a fine place to start the day. Shrimp and Grits and Pecan French Toast are tasty, homespun choices and there is a kids menu for the 12-and-under crowd. If you come here for lunch, indulge in a po-boy sandwich filled with locally caught fried shrimp or oysters, a hometown classic. You will need both hands to get a grip on it, so unless your appetite is big, consider sharing.

For dinner, the Lookout Steakhouse in Gulfport offers downtown taste with hometown prices. Pasta, steak and seafood appear on the menu along with some Creole favorites, like red beans and ham and crawfish etouffee. There is a kids menu with lots of options. The owner has several children of his own, so he knows what to do to make families feel comfortable.

McElroys on the Bayou in Ocean Springs serves ethereal beignets, those delectable fried clouds of dough draped with a veil of confectioners sugar, served fresh out of the fryer. There is a casual, diner-like atmosphere here, perfect for any meal when you want to eat copious portions of fresh food and not break the bank.

If a leisurely, calm boat ride along the Biloxi Shore sounds up your alley, a 70-minute ride on The Sailfish with Biloxi Cruise Company is what youre after. During my time on the boat, we were able to hold crabs, see shrimp, and learn the backstory of the Mississippi Gulf Shore. The boat offers two stories so you can choose if you want to take in the sun or stay in the shade.
