Aesthically pleasing Austin places that are actually as cool as they ...

100% recommend iFLY!!!! We did this as a family and had an amazing time! Clayton was our instructor and he was a blast. Definitely recommend!!!!! The entire staff is so incredible and patient. I felt safe and had the best time!

Really fun and exciting experience, and the instructors made it really special. Its amazing what a big difference an enthusiastic and personable instructor makes for this kind of experience. We did not feel rushed, and our instructor was genuinely excited to teach and help us improve.

I took my daughter and 3 of her friends to iFly Austin for her 9th birthday! We all had so much fun. Travis was our instructor, and he was excellent! He was very sweet and patient with the kids. We will definitely come back and try to get better at flying. What a fun experience!

But what if youre headed to Texas in the winter?

You might be wondering what to do.

The answer is Blazer Tag.

Hailed as the largest laser tag arena in Texas, Blazer Tag offers three entire floors of ramps, towers, corridors and bridges.

Rather than playing a rinky-dink game of tag in a small, enclosed area, youll immerse yourself in an amazing tactical landscape like something out of a video game or military exercise.

When youve defeated the other team, you can relax at a cafe that offers pizza, burgers, nachos, cheese sticks and funnel cakes.

Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve

Traveling with teenagers is different than traveling with young kids ...

Larry D. Moore / CC BY-SA

Open every day from sunrise to sunset, the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is one of the last parts of Austin that remains untouched and undeveloped by civilization.

Its the perfect place for rugged, natural sightseeing, and its a must-do for anyone interested in the native flora and fauna of the state.

Hiking trails weave through cliffs and tree groves.

Waterfalls cascade over the rocks.

From a distance, you might hear the cry of the golden-cheeked warbler, an endangered species that makes its habitat on the protected land of the preserve.

Youll have to follow strict rules while touring the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve.

Its one of those natural, carefully-tended sites where visitors are expected to conduct themselves properly.

What To Do If You Get Pulled Over

Nothing can spoil a road trip faster than getting pulled over, but it does happen. If it does, it’s important to remain calm and respectful of authority to avoid making the situation worse. You may think because you’re an out-of-town driver that it’s less likely you’ll receive a ticket, but you may actually be more likely to get one.

No matter what state you’re pulled over in, you do have certain rights as a driver. This includes:

  • The right to pull over to a safe area

  • The ability to ask why you were pulled over

  • The ability to ask for your Miranda Rights

  • Remaining silent, if you so choose

  • Refusing a search or a field sobriety test

  • The ability to ask whether or not you are free to go

If you do receive a ticket in another state, be sure to find out all your options surrounding payment. You’ll likely won’t be able to appear in court to contest the ticket. However, you may be able to take an online defensive driving course to keep the points off your license and reduce the impact on your personal auto insurance rates.
