The Center Building, built in 1903 in Downtown Alpena, was first known as the Daylight Store because of its large storefront windows and many skylights. In 1997 the current owners bought the building and embarked on an extensive renovation and restoration campaign. The building has been brought back to life with the Fresh Palate Restaurant, Thunder Bay Winery and Nucleus Bar on the first floor. Changes made to the frontage in 2014 have made indoor / outdoor dining possible with the addition of sidewalk café seating. Businesses occupy the second floor and Art in the Loft is housed on the third floor. A conference on the lower level can be hired for a daily rate.

Did you know there are approximately 200 shipwrecks in the Thunder Bay region? Two more were just discovered last year!!

If you are a boating and shipwreck fan, you will absolutely lose your mind on this 2.5 hour glass bottom shipwreck tour in Alpena MI!

The spacious boat has an inside area that is protected from the sun and wind plus an upper deck seating area with padded benches for phenomenal views!

We were thrilled to watch the bridge raise and everyone waved to the bridge operator!

FYI, there is a bathroom on the boat.

There are vast amounts of shipwreck in the Alpena area. We saw the W.P. Rend and the Monohansett which is on the south side of the National Wildlife Refuse island east of Sugar Island.

So depending on the weather, time of year and time of day, you will see different shipwrecks due to depth and visibility of the wrecks. That’s super cool-this way you can go on the tour several times and never see the same thing twice!

The Besser Natural Area is located north of Alpena and features a great beach, a shallow shipwreck, hiking and exploring!
