Take A Selfie With A Troll

48 Hours in Seattle: The Perfect Itinerary

The Fremont Troll is cute to some, terrifying to others. Either way, you should visit one of the most famous free tourist attractions in Seattle located in Fremont under the Aurora bridge on 36th St.

The troll is technically open 24/7, but it can get popular during the day time. If you want a solo photo with it, I recommend going earlier in the morning before the crowds come.

While youll find plenty of adults here, its one of the more common free things to do in Seattle with kids, so there will be plenty of children running up and down the Troll.

Take A Weekend Trip To Leavenworth

A big appeal of the city is its quick access to many great weekend getaways from Seattle. On the other side of Stevens Pass, one such weekend getaway is a Bavarian town that specializes in winter splendor.

Leavenworth is just over two hours east of Seattle. This scenic small town adopted a Bavarian persona in the 1960s, and today is a top tourist destination of the state. The winter adds extra appeal to this Alps-inspired village surrounded by stunning mountain peaks. As the colder months start to shorten the days, Leavenworth’s evenings transform into a wonderland of lights and color.

Alongside the postcard attributes of Leavenworth’s Village of Lights, the town swirls with sensory details that define the season. Roasting chestnuts, caroling choirs, and the feeling of falling snow lend to memorable weekend visits. Mark a calendar for the Leavenworth Christmas Lighting Festivals that occur on December weekends.

Leavenworth’s access to big mountain terrain also makes the town a prime winter weekend destination from Seattle. Outdoor adventure in Leavenworth is very accessible in the winter. Snowy pursuits in the area include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and backcountry skiing.

Fun Things To Do In Seattle This Weekend: Chihuly Garden And Glass

22 Things to Do in Seattle, Washington

Even if you dont have a lot of spare time during your visit to Seattle, you should definitely pencil in a trip to Chihuly Garden and Glass. It is a long-term exhibition by artist Dale Chihuly that opened in 2012 at Seattle Center. Chihulys work is magical there is simply no other way to describe it. He plays with glass, light, and the imagination of viewers by creating compelling and dream-like art pieces. He designed the art space specifically for this exhibition. Visit eight galleries to see Chihulys comprehensive art collection, and keep in mind that the culmination of your visit will be the Glasshouse.

It is a 4,500-square feet space filled with lights, colors, and an enormous, out-of-this-world 100-foot tall suspended sculpture in reds, yellows, oranges, and amber, made of thousands of individual pieces. When you go out to the garden, the magic continues. Chihuly planted his Crystal and Icicle Towers and Reeds on Logs among real, breathing scarlet daylilies, crimson camellias, dogwoods, fuchsias, and many trees. Youll never want to leave.

Seattle is known as the birthplace of grunge music, but the music scene has evolved over the last few decades to encompass a much wider range of genres.

From huge acts that sell out KeyArena to little-known artists performing in intimate venues, theres live music for every taste.

  • The Showbox: This is one of the better venues in town, and many big name performers coming through town. There are two locations, one on 1st Ave and another in SoDo so make sure you know where your show is . Find out which artists are coming to town soon on the Showbox Schedule.

  • Stone Way Café: This laidback cafe serves food, coffee and beer, and hosts live music weekly as well as open mic sessions. Everyday they have someone new come to play, so make sure to check out their schedule on their Facebook.
