Fun things to do in Greenville SC

This is my newest FREE find in Greenville, and quite a fun pick! Remember Falls Park? Well, its also home to Moonlight Movies that are family friendly and seasonal favorites. Past movie hits include The Princess Bride, Jumanji, The Goonies, Clue, and Jurassic Park. Holiday classics range from Miracle on 34th Street to Beetlejuice for Halloween.

Guests are welcome to bring food and beverages, blankets, and lawn chairs and enjoy a classic movie under the stars with the Reedy Falls rushing in the background.

Ride The Greenville Trolley

My toddler loves the show Daniel Tigers Neighborhood, so she was super excited to take a trolley ride in downtown Greenville. The downtown trolley is a great, open-air option for those looking for a break from walking or for families wanting an easy tour of the city of Greenville.

You can check the trolley maps, routes and schedules out here. Its also important to note that some of the routes are seasonal and may not be available depending on when you visit.

Up on the Roof is the place to be. This hip spot is an indoor/outdoor bar on the rooftop of the Embassy Suites hotel. This sophisticated spot has great views over the Greenville rooftops, but the real stars of the show are the drinks. Theyre homemade and bottled on site. We had fun taste testing the offerings while warming ourselves on a cool rainy night around the cozy firepits that dot the outdoor terrace.

Fort Sumter National Monument

Best Attractions & Things to do in Greenville, South Carolina SC

Fort Sumter, a sea fortress built on an island in the Charleston harbor, is one of the most notable landmarks in American history. The American Civil war, which stemmed from dispute over the enslavement of black Americans, created division between Northern and Southern states. In 1860, South Carolina, a slave-holding state, declared succession from the union. The following year, in 1861, South Carolina bombarded Fort Sumter, which was occupied by the U.S. Army, an event that incited the Civil War. Accessible only by boat, the sites museum is located within the fortress. Its exhibits teach about the construction of the Fort Sumter and its extensive war history. Guided tours and field trip opportunities are offered year-round.

Take A Stroll On The Liberty Bridge

The Liberty Bridge is located at Falls Park in downtown Greenville, SC. You can get some really great views of the waterfalls and park from this bridge.

Since the Liberty Bridge is located in a prime spot in the downtown area, you will find plenty of options for nearby restaurants and hotels. The Hampton Inn and Suites is probably the closest hotel for walking to the Liberty Bridge, but we prefer the Embassy Suites by Hilton Downtown Riverplace since it offers a pool for the kids.

Walk Along N And S Main Street

Whats a small town without its Main Street? With an abundance of restaurants, ice cream shops and boutique stands, Main Street has a little something for everyone and is no sleepy town. Reminders of Greenvilles connection to the great outdoors and its Falls Park are obvious highlights in town, with water fountains and water features throughout. For a real treat, order a scoop or two from Spill the Beans, Greenvilles coffee house and creamery, located right at the entrance to Falls Park on the Reedy River.

Stay At Hyatt Regency Greenville

Family Activities in Greenville, South Carolina

We stayed at Hyatt Regency Greenville on this visit, and I HIGHLY recommend it.

Location

Hyatt Regency is centrally located in Downtown, with easy parking. Its in the heart of Downtown so we were close to all the shopping and restaurants, Falls Park, Reedy Rides and the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

It was just a hop and a skip to the Heritage Green, and museums thereand an easy shot out to Paris Mountain and Treetop Quest.

The Room

We stayed in the Atrium Suite with spectacular views of the hotel atrium

The Suite was large, with plenty of space for relaxing. It included a mini fridge and full dining table. This was perfect for getting a little work done

I also loved that the Suite included two full bathrooms and a separate bedroom with sofa and TV and desk for mom and dad.

The boys slept on the sleeper sofa. It was a sectional sofa, but still made out into a bed.

The Atrium Suite was probably designed for entertaining or business meetingsbut for a family staying several nights in the area it also worked perfectly! Andits more affordable than you might think.

PS Want to see a walk-thru of our room? We saved it in our IG Highlights here.

Amenitiesand Dining

The hotel offers an outdoor pool and fitness center.

A Starbucks is within the same building, as well as Kilwins

We also dined one evening at Roost, the farm-to-table restaurant of the hotel. We enjoyed dinner, sitting on patio and watching the crowds go by as the sun fell.

Get Your Grub On In Greenville

Fork & Ploughs farm to table menu changes weekly. The restaurant has a hip vibe, and still keeps a casual, friendly atmosphere, too. Kids will love the butter noodles. Parents will love the locally grown veggies, meat dishes, and tasty desserts.

Papis Tacos | Laura Powell

Located on River Street with views of Falls Park, Papis Tacos hits the spot for family fun options like the travelin taco , tortas, and easy options for the kids. Papi is Jorge Baralles, and the recipes were passed down from his family in Mexico.

Take A Bike Ride Or A Walk

Greenville SC is part of the GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail. That is a 19.9-mile multi-use urban trail that runs alongside the Reedy River. It has garnered multiple awards as one of Americas best urban biking trails. Its easy to see why. We headed to Reedy Rides where we rented bikes and helmets and headed for the trail. The bikes worked well and the flat trail made for easy biking. We only had time to ride a couple of miles. Had we more time, we would have kept going, comforted to know that there are bathroom stops at several points along the way.

If you prefer to walk, you can do that on the trail too. Just remember to walk on the right side of the trail and keep an ear open for bikers riding past.

Paris Mountain State Park

5 Fun Things to Do with Kids in South Carolina

Paris Mountain is only about 15 minutes from downtown, but feels like youve escaped to the mountain. Its a monadnock with plenty of activities to enjoy.

Rent a kayak, canoe, or paddle boat, hike or bike along the trail, cast a line, spot local birds through your binoculars, or let the kids take a dip in the swimming hole under the watchful eye of a lifeguard .

We missed swimming season, so we opted for a hike around Lake Placid . We crossed a very cool boardwalk foot bridge, saw the swimming platform , and walked in front of the dam to see the waterfall.

The park is gorgeous! If you can, consider camping here also there are tent and RV options.

Pretty Place At Camp Greenville

This outdoor chapel has stunning mountain views and is a popular wedding venue. Formally named the Fred W. Symmes Chapel, Pretty Place is part of YMCA Camp Greenville. Founded in 1912, Camp Greenville spans 1400 acres.

Typically the chapel is booked throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. For this reason, guests should contact the camp office to check the schedule prior to visiting to avoid conflicts with weddings or other privately scheduled events at Pretty Place. Worth the drive and a stones throw from other notable spots like Caesars Head and Brevard, NC.

Learn About Confederate History

This might be a modern city, but South Carolina is still the Deep South. So when we passed a sign pointing to the Museum and Library of Confederate History, we couldnt resist. The mission of the museum housed in a Greenville neighborhood, is to protect, preserve and defend the memory, history and heritage of the gallant Confederate soliders who gave their lives during the War Between the States.

Grab A Snack At Poppingtons Gourmet Popcorn

When Bob and Rose Augustyn decided to bring a nostalgia-infused snack shop to Downtown Greenville, they had no idea how poppin it would be. Poppingtons is now a beloved local business serving locals and visitors alike. Stop by for a tin , and be prepared to mull over a plethora of flavor options. Salty? Sweet? Cheesy? Spicy? Theyve got you covered.

Poppingtons offers over 75 different kinds of popcorn flavors like Bloody Mary, Dill, Buffalo Wing and more. The most popular flavor is the Greenville Mix caramel popcorn mixed with White Cheddar and Golden Cheddar flavors.

Theyve also started offering gift boxes with different flavors and themes. We especially love the one just for Fido!

Search For Mice On Main

Fun Indoor Things To Do In Greenville Sc

Holiday Flea At Swamp Rabbit Cafe

Want even more options to shop local and buy from local artists and crafters? Enter the Holiday Flea by Swamp Rabbit Cafe. In normal years, the event is held over two Saturdays in December. Think over 40 local artists and live music. Plus the cafe itself!

In 2020, instead of two large holiday markets, there will be a series of smaller markets.

Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays

Friday, December 4: 9am-8pmSaturday, December 5: 9am-6pm

This fair held at the Convention Center in downtown Greenville reminds me of the holiday craft show I went to as a kid where I grew up. My mother loved seeing all of the holiday themed crafts and getting new, quality, handmade decorations for our home .

Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum And Baseball Library

When we visited Greenville last, the museum was in the process of being moved and enlarged so we did not get to visit. If it is reopened when you are in town, I highly recommend making a stop.

In the 1919 World Series Joe played nearly flawless baseball. He hit .375 for the series, the highest on either team playing. He had twelve hits , collected six RBIs and didnt commit a single error in the field in the eight games, accounted for eleven of the twenty White Sox runs, and he hit the only home run in the series.

Did he help fix the game? The courts said noand well never know the truth. Except that Joe Jackson continues to be one of the most beloved and publicized ballplayers of all time.
