Gay Things To Do In Vegas

The Best Way To Get To Gay Las Vegas

FIRST LOOK: Circa’s MEGABAR to be longest bar in Nevada

Unless youre in one of Nevadas five surrounding states, and probably even if you are, youll likely come by plane. Yes, you can drive, but the drive to Las Vegas from anywhere is long and not necessarily the safest mode of transportation

Bussing is another option but that has its challenges.

So, youll likely arrive in Vegas by plane, landing at McCarran International Airport. This is the first exciting part of your upcoming trip to gay Las Vegas.

Book your flight through Orbitz here.

Once you arrive, its barely a 10-minute drive from taxi, shuttle, Uber or Lyft to the Strip. To save money, see if your hotel offers a free shuttle back and forth from the airport to your hotel. A taxi will cost you up to $20. Uber and Lyft will each cost you under $15.

Note that you can also book your travel accommodations directly on the new Orbitz LGBTQ site.

How Lgbtq Friendly Is Las Vegas

Las Vegas is the place for gay travelers looking for over-the-top luxury. Its now home to an exclusive Pride Concierge at Wynn and Encore, which helps tourists plan an LGBT-oriented vacation.

While this adult playground has an impressive range of gay destinations all across the city, these three neighborhoods represent the peak of LGBT Vegas.

Paradise

Avid clubbers will love Paradises Fruit Loop cluster of LGBTQ bars and clubs, including an exclusive hub for RuPauls Drag Race performers. Just east of the Strip is the Badlands Saloon, a country-themed gay dive perfect for travelers who want to keep it simple and down-to-earth.

Want to get some exercise while on holiday? Active tourists should check out and join the LGBT Volleyball Gay Social at Sunset Park.

Downtown

Compared to the upbeat nightlife vibe of Paradise, Downtown Vegas is an eccentric melting pot of LGBTQ locals from all walks of life. First-time visitors should go to The Center to learn about volunteer opportunities, Pride events, and other LGBTQ resources.

Downtown Vegas also hosts the annual Las Vegas Pride Festival, which takes place in the fall.

Spring Valley

Spanning over 33 miles, Spring Valley is a hotbed of LGBTQ events and food destinations just minutes away from the Strip. More laid-back travelers who want to avoid the typical Vegas tourist traps might prefer The Space, a community-driven arts complex that hosts events like the Miss Gay Nevada America Pageant.

Gay Hotels In Las Vegas

Unfortunately, there are currently are no gay-owned and operated hotels in Las Vegas. Once upon a time, there was a very fun and well-known gay-owned and operated hotel for LGBTQ people called the Blue Moon Resort. There was a pool, there was alcohol, clothing was optional, you could sleepover , and it was a lot of fun.

To make a long story short, in 2014, the owners of the property on which Blue Moon Resort rested sold it to someone else who wasnt interested in keeping the hotel. Blue Moon Resorts proprietor, John Hessling, not the property owner, had no option but the close the only gay hotel in Las Vegas. Its a shame because we and many, many gay men had fun.

At present, there are no gay-owned, gay-operated or hotels that specifically cater to the LGBTQ community. Fortunately, Las Vegas is becoming more and more inclusive.

Best Hikes Near Las Vegas

1. Red Rock Canyon

The closest and most popular national park near Vegas is Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon is 17 miles from the strip, so it makes both a great morning and late afternoon activity.

The highlight of Red Rock Canyon is the Calico Hills with bright red rocks and cliffs that make Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado look beige. The other big draw is Calico Tanks with bright red rocks and cliffs but with hidden but pristine water pockets and a great view of Vegas. Both hikes are moderate and perfect partial day hikes.

For an easy to moderate hike also with a waterfall and pool, visit First Creek Canyon. Its a nice, 4-mile hike

For youd like a strenuous hike, Ice Box Canyon is where you want to go. Its a tight canyon with high walls that includes seasonal waterfalls which, when pouring, and with the near-constant shade makes this one of the coolest spots in the park.

If you just want a scenic drive, starting November 2020 youll need to schedule a timed entry reservation here.

2. Sloan Canyon Petroglyph

Sloan Canyon National Conservation is just 22 minutes outside of Vegas and is a scenic and mostly easy outdoor walk. One of the main reasons to visit Sloan Canyon is to spot one of the over 1,700 petroglyphs created by native cultures from the Archaic era.

3. Valley of Fire

Its so beautiful, it attracts hikers and moviemakers alike. Movies such as Total Recall, Con Air, Transformers and Casino are just some of the celluloid that have featured Valley of Fire.

Las Vegas Arts District

The Center in downtown Las Vegas hosts Juneteenth, Pride event

On the edge of Downtown Las Vegas and beyond all the neon lights of the Vegas Strip, arts happening, from modern to political to beautiful. Artists making names for themselves out from under the noise of NYC and LA have come to the peace and quiet of Vegas to shine.

The Arts District or 18b, as its aka, is in the Fremont East area of DTLV that spans E. Charleston Blvd. If all the mid-century modern antique stores and murals dont give it away, youll know youre there when you see the 18b Arts District sign.

With warehouses turned art galleries, mini-shops, restaurant and bars, one of our fave, mostly outdoor activities is riding bikes to the arts district for some window shopping, seeing the latest artistic creations, grabbing a snickity snack or drinkity drink here and there.

Many bars, shops and restaurants have started to safely open again. When here, youll want to visit the Art Factory, Art Square, Recycled Propaganda for amazing art, Retro Vegas for Vegass best mod-antique shop and Rebar for a refreshing beer.

Transportation & Airport Transfer

Harry Reid International Airport is the main commercial airport serving Las Vegas and is located in Paradise, just 5 miles south of downtown and right alongside the Vegas Strip. Its so close, that you can often enjoy amazing birds-eye views of the dazzling hotels and attractions when you take off and land. Terminal 1 handles domestic flights while Terminal 3 is newer serving international and some domestic flights as well.

There are several options to get to your accommodations from the airport including bus, shuttle, taxi, rideshare and car rental. We recommend using a rideshare like Lyft or Uber to get to your hotel and get around the city. At Terminal 1 rideshare pick up is located on level 2 of the parking garage. At Terminal 3 rideshare pick up is located on the Valet level of the Terminal 3 parking garage.

For both rideshare and taxis, its only a 10 to 15-minute drive whether youre staying on the Strip or downtown . Rideshare and taxis are similarly priced and will cost you anywhere from $15 to $30 depending on the distance to your hotel and time of day/traffic.

Monorail To quickly and easily get from one end of the Strip to the other, consider taking the Las Vegas Monorail to avoid the traffic and crowds. Its route stretches 3.9 miles from the SAHARA Las Vegas Station to the MGM Grand Station with 5 stops in between. Get tickets

The 10 Gayest Things You Must Do In Lgbtqia Las Vegas

The bad news first. Contrary to its outsized personality and reputation, Las Vegas is a relatively small city with a population of only 600,000 so dont arrive expecting a gay scene to rival that of New York City or Los Angeles . But Vegas is nevertheless a nonstop party oozing queer campiness and a jackpot if youre into apps like Grindr and Scruff . Thus, we love it. While its customary to roll the dice, placing a bet on these must do queer attractions is the safest move you can make.

Show off your ballsAnd by balls we mean tennis, bowling, soccer and dodge, of course. The Sin City Classic is the largest annual LGBTQ sports gathering in the world and brings an estimated 9,000 athletes to the city every January to compete in some two dozen sporting events, including swimming, golf, wrestling, running, ice hockey, rock climbing, volleyball, darts and more. Host hotels are the Tropicana and Platinum Hotel & Spa. Oh, and of course there are parties and events happening all weekend. Dont forget your jock strap!

The Best Hotels In Las Vegas

When it comes to over-the-top luxury, Las Vegas has accommodation options in reams. Weve put together our Las Vegas gay city guide to the best hotels to help you decide. First up is the 5-star Encore at Wynn Las Vegas a place of velveteen and floral glamour with a casino connected to the Wynn Resort and Encore pool nightclub. The best thing about Encore is that they even have a Pride Concierge acting as your official Las Vegas gay scene guide, advising on where to go, what to see and how to party in the gayest of styles. Another 5-starrer is the household name Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas, where privacy and seclusion can be expected. Many VIP guests stay long-term here, taking advantage of the quiet 23rd-floor atmosphere, far away from the flashing lights and roulette-wheel clinking down below.

Gay Las Vegas Fruit Loop

The Fruit Loop, the closest Las Vegas has to a gayborhood, is a bunch of LGBTIA bars, nightclubs and businesses on East Naples Street near UNLV. It sprung up organically as early as the 1950s and 1960s. It didnt get the endearing Fruit Loop name until the 1970s.

The Fruit Loop includes some of the bars and nightclubs below, such as Quadz, Piranha Ultra Lounge and Freezone. It also includes Club Unity, a supper and dance club, and the Get Booked bookstore and adult shop.

The Best Lgbtq Bars And Clubs

Most gay bars are located in the Fruit Loop to the strip’s east, and quite a few offer gaming machines within, including one of the longest-running Las Vegas LGBTQ nightlife venues, Freezone Las Vegas. Open 24/7 and marked by a pair of giant wings by the entrance , the line-up at this nightclub-bar-restaurant includes dancing, karaoke, drag performances, and open bar on some nights from 9-11pm.

Piranha Ultra Lounge is Las Vegas’s most happening, sassy nightclub and where you can see “RuPaul Drag Race” stars Yara Sofia and Shannel plus local drag talents Hot Chocolate, Paloma Makary , and Lacherry Wild among others.

The handiwork of Sin City’s innovative LGBT nightlife promoter Eduardo Cordova, brand new gay bar The Garden opened in Downtown’s Arts District in 2020. Serving chef Jorge Castillo’s comfort sharing plates as well as cocktails, the indoor space is decked out in aqua and mossy green tones with velvet booths, wood and brass elements, and a DJ booth that resembles a fireplace, while an outdoor garden patio features flowers, water fountains, and small tables and chairs for comfy kikis.

Fun Hog Ranch The Local Favorite

Las Vegas gay couple relieved to hear arrests made in their attack
  • Great Drink Specials / Happy Hour
  • All you can Drink Thursdays!
  • Simple and fun

A friend of mine describes the Fun Hog Ranch as The gay guys answer to a broish dive bar. My experience? The people are very upbeat and want to chat with you, and its primarily locals! So this is a great place to meet people. There is gaming! If you sit at the bar, you can try your luck on keno, poker, blackjack, etc. Not into gaming, no problem there are also private booths available. The Jukebox is open to all music types, so setting a mood that meets your pace is easy! Will you see a lot of lesbians? Not really, this is more of a place for the guys, but that doesnt mean they arent welcome. This place is open to everyone and is very friendly and welcoming from the moment you walk through the door. I cant talk about the Fun Hog Ranch without mentioning its fantastic drink specials! They are daily!

  • Mojito Mondays
  • Hump Day $4 drink specials
  • Thirsty Thursdays All you can drink
  • Sunday Funday! All you can drink beer

Overall I give this place a Locals Favorite badge. The bartenders are super friendly and personable. The bar is positioned right in the heart of a local residential zone just outside the Strip, home to many casino workers, mid 30s homeowners, and families. And its not as flashy as the rest of the bars on this list, and it feels like more of a Cheers-style bar.
