See Shakespeare In The Park

MOST INSANE BIRTHDAY WEEKEND IN NYC | WHAT TO DO IN NYC 2020 | NYC TRAVEL VLOG

A post shared by Ally Gibson on Sep 1, 2017 at 4:57pm PDT

Ive said it many times before, and Ill say it again. Theres nothing better than watching a well-acted play.

Shakespeare in the Park is easily my all-time favorite activity during the summer. Its a magical experience as the sun is setting and the night sky is taking over.

Tickets are available in person the day of each show and via TodayTix online lottery.

Locals Tip: Plan ahead and bring a bottle of wine and snacks for an impromptu picnic on the Great Lawn before the show.

If youre even half a foodie, youll know that New York is well known for its array of dining options.

Seriously, its heaven with so many delicious restaurants around every corner.

Here are some of my favorite spots to grab a bite:

Why just tour the catacombs of New York, when you could be having burgers while listening to Bach in them?

This is one example of the many events Angels Share at Greenwood Cemetery hosts.

Its located in one of the oldest structures in the cemetery from the 1850s. Seriously, this might be one of the coolest things to do in the city.

Locals Tip: Book tickets early, Ive yet to score tickets for this because it sells out quickly.

Whisper Sweet Nothings At Grand Central Station

Theres something so romantic about trains pulling in and out of a historic station. There are so many stories to be told. Visiting Grand Central Station is one of the most romantic things to do in NYC even if youre not hopping on a rail car.

Its free, and its indoors. Its the ideal spot for a rainy day. You can do a little shopping or grab a snack while youre visiting.

Before you leave, dont forget to spend time in the whispering gallery. In the area where the walkways intersect on the lower floors of the terminal, the acoustics hold a secret. Because the domed arches are structurally perfect, they carry sound from corner to corner.

Stand on one side, and place your partner at the other. Play a quiet game of operator, or tell them how much you enjoy spending time with them.

Things To Do In Nyc: Schmackarys

Zachary Schmackary Schmahl is the original cookie monster. He loves cookies so much that he went all over the country trying all the best cookies and decided that there was something missing. Zachary was not satisfied with just chocolate chip cookies and the like. He realized that there were so many flavors missing so he decided to come to New York and make them himself. In 2011 he started selling his cookies online and a year later opened a shop in New Hell’s Kitchen. Zachary now sells 45 types of cookies called “modern cookie classics” and “seasonal cookie sensations.” The flavors rotate daily, but most of the time you can find his signature flavors such as Maple Bacon, Red Velvet, and Fluffler Nutter. He even meddled with the classic chocolate chip by adding a touch of sea salt. He also makes The Oatmeal Scotchie, an oatmeal, cinnamon, and vanilla cookie filled with crunchy butterscotch chips. The King of New York is a gluten-free dark chocolate cookie with salted pretzel pieces in its heart. There are also cookies with bacon, with cayenne pepper, and practically anything the cookie monster could think of.

Ready To Go To New York

Your Flight: I use a variety of tools to find cheap airfare, but if youre looking to book during a particular period of time, especially during busy times , you should use Skyscanner.

Its a great tool for when youre more flexible, too, as it allows you to compare travel based on length of travel, departure date, etc.

Deals to the state for a NYC birthday are easier to find if youre traveling from another major hub. The city is a desirable destination year-round. Another strategy is following the major airlines to catch good deals that may come up for your city.

Your Accommodations: I typically book accommodations on sites like Booking.com and Hotels.com both offer loyalty programs, and now offer listings that are more of the home or condo rental variety, which is great. And you have more recourse if your stay doesnt meet your standards.

If youre looking for accommodations in New York City, check out some well-reviewed options below from Booking.com:

Belt Out Some Karaoke

True love is singing karaoke under pressure and letting the other person sing the Freddie Mercury part.

MINDY KALING

You can tell a lot about a person by what song they pick at karaoke. What will your song say about you?

The city has lots of cool karaoke bars, but my favorite is in K-town. I like the opportunity to dig into some quality Korean BBQ before singing the night away.

The city offers plenty of opportunities for karaoke. Some of my favorite spots include:

Spend your evening following Alice down the rabbit in Then She Fell.

Or pop on a mask and lose yourself in the world of Shakespeares Macbeth at Sleep No More.

My favorite is Sleep No More. Its different every night since you choose which characters to chase.

Either way, youll be spending your evening lost in another world.
