Go Lip Syncin And Day Drinkin On The Big Drag Bus

10 Fun Things To Do in Nashville Tennessee with kids

DowntownThis 90-minute tour of some of Nashvilles hot spots has quickly become a tough ticket, even though they offer multiple trips a day. Your acerbic drag queen tour guides keep the party pumping on the bus while lip synching to classic hits and narrating your trip through town. They also provide coolers and fresh ice for passengers, and the pickup spot happens to be right across the street from a beer and liquor store.

Where Are The Kid

This was a bit of a tough one. Not because there are few restaurants that are kid-friendly, there are lots of restaurants and even some bars that have kid-friendly cuisine.

If you are in Nashville with kids, you want them to have a fun experience as well. I was looking for places that made sure the kids had fun stuff to experience, not only had a kid menu and accommodated seating.

Pfunky Griddle

Ive eaten at the Pfunky Griddle a few times, I personally love this place. Why do I start by saying that? There are many people who are against going to a restaurant and cooking your own food.

I personally think that with the right people in your party you can have a lot of fun being creative with your food as you prepare it. If you are in Nashville with kids, they will really enjoy playing cook and then eating the food they made.

You can make pancakes with M& Ms to fruit as additions. Plus there are eggs, grilled cheese, and more. If making your own food isnt your idea of going out to eat, you can order off of their menu as well.

The creator of one of the best barbeque places in Nashville also has one of the best burger places in Nashville. Check out Hugh Babys at one of their three locations. They have a great selection of burgers, bbq, and hot dogs. The little one get their drinks are free. Thats not all they do for the kids, there is a fun play area for them as well.

Grand Old Golf Gokarts And Indoor Bumper Cars

Since the demise of our beloved Opryland theme park in 1997, there arent many multi-faceted entertainment complexes for the whole family. This place near Opryland Hotel offers a pretty nifty trio of courses and a zippy go-cart track. With circular bumper cars, now you can experience what it must feel like to be the steel ball in a pinball machine.

Add Some Vintage To Your Closet

90 Things to Do with Kids in Nashville

East NashvilleAside from the jokes about the hipster uniform of typical East Nashville denizens, the neighborhood is home to some of the citys coolest vintage clothing stores, so its an ideal environment for adding some old school style to your wardrobe. Some of the best spots to dig through the clothing bins for concert t-shirts, distressed denim and leather jackets include The Hip Zipper, Good Buy Girls, and High Class Hillbilly. In no time, youll be blending in anywhere in Five Points.

See The Country Music Hall Of Fame

You certainly dont have to be a country music fan to appreciate the Country Music Hall of Fame, but a visit here is one of the quintessential best things to do in Nashville. One of the worlds largest museums, it is home to 2.5 million artifacts, including recordings, photos, instruments, and so many other things. Just the collection and variety of cowboy boots and clothes is kind of mind-blowing. There are also larger, one-of-a-kind items like ElvisSolid Gold Cadillac painted with crushed diamonds and fish scales.

The Country Music Hall of Fame makes an effort to pay tribute to county musics heritage while also having a focus on contemporary and even cross-over artists. While there is a permanent collection, some of the exhibits rotate.

Day Two In Nashville: Exploring Downtown

On day 2 of this Nashville travel guide, its time to hit the streets and see what Nashville has to offer. As I mentioned in the top things to do section, you can follow one of these excellent self-guided city tours.

Walking tours takes you to twenty different sites and historic districts. Whichever one you choose to follow will give you a great introduction to Music City!

In the afternoon, you should definitely check out either the Country Music Hall of Fame or the Johnny Cash Museum. The former is much larger and has a lot more to see, so youll need to budget a couple of hours if you go that route. Its worth it to pay the extra two bucks to get the audio guide in this huge museum.

Be sure to take a stroll through the Music City Walk of Fame Park in the Nashville Music Garden. The star-studded pavement here honors music legends who have contributed to Nashvilles musical history.

You have plenty of options for where to eat dinner downtown. Please skip out on the chain restaurants such as Hard Rock or Margaritaville. You didnt come to Nashville to eat a shitty $20 burger!

On your second night in Nashville, get out there and see some live music! How you choose to spend your night depends on your budget and music taste. Between May and October, you can catch a show at the awesome Ascend Amphitheatre. Its one of my favorite outdoor music venues in the US.

Visit The Ryman Auditorium

In many ways, the Ryman Auditorium made Nashville the capital of country music. Opened in 1892 as the Union Gospel Tabernacle, the Ryman was the home of the Grand Ole Opry, which was broadcast from the stage every week for 30 years.

Today, visitors can tour the hallowed auditorium and hear Trisha Yearwood, Nicole Kidman, and others talk about the history of the building and its performers. You can take a photo on the Rymans famous stage and even make a record. The self-guided tour of one of the top Nashville attractions is at your own pace.

If a tour isnt quite your speed, you can grab a ticket to one of the performances that still happen here almost every night of the week.

Go On The Historic Rca Studio B Tour

When you visit the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum, add on a Studio B tour where you visit Studio Row, the famous recording studio in Nashville

Its a must not miss Nashville thing to do.

Billions of dollars worth of hits have been recorded in this tiny studio, primarily from 1957 to 1977, when the studio was operated by RCA Records.

Dolly Parton recorded her $35 million hit, I will always love you. Elvis recorded most of his number one hits here, as did the Everly Brothers, who were the first album I ever bought when I was super young from a TV infomercial.

RCA Studio B has now been preserved as a historical site for visitors to enjoy, and was one of the most interesting Nashville attractions.

You tour the studio, listen to stories and songs and can stand in the place where these artists stood and recorded. Savannah and I had a dance or two along the way too.

Tours of Studio B depart hourly between 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. daily from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

You can save $3 on your admission price by combining the tour with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum:

Enjoy The View At A Rooftop Bar

3 Things To Do in Nashville with Kids (Or The Young at Heart ...

Nashville is blessed with dozens of rooftop bars with picturesque views and lots of ambiance. From pool decks and live music to seating in swings and private cabanas, they are great places to chill out and enjoy your beverage of choice.

On Broadway, we like the Lookout at Ole Redits a bit more refined than some places and has a great view of the action. In The Gulch, our choice is Up, a rooftop lounge, where you can relax on the couches or chat over the fire pits.

In the Arts District, the super cool Bobby Hotel has a premium rooftop lounge. You can grab a seat at the bar or hang out in the bus. In winter, you may even find yourself in one of their igloos or chic cedar cabins.

The Johnny Cash Museum

My kids only know Johnny Cash from the movie Walk the Line. And really to them, thats a Reese Witherspoon movie. Embarrassing! I set the record straight at the Johnny Cash Museum, where they learned about his life, music and costumes. Those costumes show why he was nicknamed the Man in Black.

The museum offers a wealth of memorabilia a wall of gold and platinum records, school report cards and yearbook pages, Cashs Air Force uniform and personal Bible, to name just a few. There are clips of Johnny Cash appearances in films, on TV and in cartoons. And as you walk through the compact Johnny Cash Museum, you hear his music throughout. Its a great introduction to the man, or a great way to revisit his career and life.
