Visit Louisianas Other Side

Shreveport-Bossier is often referred to as Louisianas Other Side. It could be argued though that this label was meant to be more than a geographical definition.

A colorful mix of Cajun and Texan attributes, Shreveport-Bossier represents another aspect of the states personality. The area is famous for riverboat casinos and venues that pair Texas steak with spicy crawfish, but it also boasts some wonderfully fun and educational opportunities for families.

Take the Sci-Port Louisiana Science Center, for instance. It has almost 300 exhibits designed to provide visitors of all ages with hands-on learning experiences in math, science, and space.

Regional history and culture are subjects of the exhibits, frescos, and murals in the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum. Be sure to check out the 22 detailed dioramas depicting Depression and Post-Depression era aspects of Louisianas agriculture, economy, technology, and natural resources.

Then theres the Spring Street Historical Museum, housed in one of the oldest buildings in the downtown area. It feels like a time travel portal.

Vintage clothing, toys, firearms, and swords are among the large collection of artifacts displayed. Theres also a complete Victorian parlor that will give you a nice peek into the late 1800s.

Theres also an exotic petting zoo that includes miniature horses, kangaroos, a camel, and so much more! You can even zip line right over the parks residents!

Kid Friendly Hotels In New Orleans

My son and I stayed at the hip during our mother-son New Orleans vacation. Its got a modern mid-luxury feel with cool details like a self-playing piano in the lobby and unique lighting fixtures. Our Deluxe Room with two queen beds and a mini fridge was fine for the two of us. Bigger families, however, will be pleased to find a washer/dryer, living area, and kitchenette in Executive Rooms. For even more space, reserve a One-Bedroom Suite. The residences portion of this propertys name refers to the propertys apartments for long-term rental. An onsite restaurant and lobby bar add to the allure of a stay at this hotel.

Situated between the BioMedical District and the Theater District, you can drive eight minutes or walk 20 minutes to reach the French Quarter from the Jung Hotel. The Canal Street Streetcar stop is right out front. Kids will enjoy riding the streetcar to visit attractions like the Mississippi Riverfront, Audubon Insectarium, and Aquarium of the Americas. The hotels location outside the French Quarter makes the pricing surprisingly affordable, too.

If hotel pools sway your hotel booking decisions, then youre in luck. Cool off after a long day exploring The Big Easy in Jungs stylish rooftop pool. Read more about this property and book your stay via Hotels.com now!

The Jung is part of the New Orleans Hotel Collection. After staying in three of their hotels, I feel confident recommending a vacation at any of their eight properties.

Visit The Louisiana Old State Capitol

Constructed in 1847, the Old State Capitol acted as the office for the Louisiana State Legislature until the late 1920s. Today, the important United States political building is a museum. During a visit, youll learn about Louisiana history, especially politics in Louisiana.

Located in East Baton Rouge, Blue Bayou Water Park is one of the best family-friendly attractions in the area, especially if visiting in the summer. The water park features multiple water slides, a wave pool, and a lazy river. Theres also a fun pirate-themed kiddie pool for little ones.

Dixie Landin is located adjacent to Blue Bayou Water Park. The amusement park has a range of rides for kids of all ages to enjoy, including roller coasters, a kids train, and spinning teacups. After trying all the rides, your kids can grab classic theme park snacks, like cotton candy or corn dogs.

FUN THINGS TO DO IN LOUISIANA | Prehistoric Park – Henderson, Louisiana | Dinosaur Park Review

An old apothecary dating back to 1823, the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum is now the home of a collection of antique pharmaceuticals.

Early medicines, wild superstitions, and outlandish cures have all made a home in this rather odd establishment.

Situated in New Orleans, Louisiana, the museum resides in a historic building in the well-known Vieux Carre Historic District.

Showcasing an extensive collection as well as providing educational programming, the museum is a fun place to tour.

The New Orleans Pharmacy Museum does a fine job of preserving and presenting the intriguing history of pharmaceuticals and healthcare in Louisiana.

Some of the exhibits showcase old methods of administering medicine, voodoo potions, surgical instruments, questionable practices, and a lot of other interesting tidbits.

Other exhibits show excavated medicine bottles, a spectacles collection, and even architectural specifications about the historical building itself.

Lastly, after your tour, be sure to visit the museums gift shop where you can purchase cool pharmacy souvenirs.

Start The Day With A Zydeco Breakfast At Buck And Johnnys

CAMPING WITH KIDS – FAMILY CAMPING – Things to do in Louisiana: Palmetto Island State Park

Zydeco is a style of African American music that originated in the south of Louisiana. Its ability to get your toes tapping is remarkable! I developed a taste for it when I spent my first morning in the States joining locals two-stepping to a live band at this packed bar near Lafayette.

The Zydeco Brunch happens every Saturday during the breakfast service. The food is typically southern. Order Beignets and Troubled Water to start, followed by a Buck and Jonnys speciality such as Cajun Swamp Rice or the Dont Mess with My Tasso. They have 15 dollar Cajun Bloody Marys, if youre looking to kick brunch up a notch before you hit the dance floor.

I absolutely loved the atmosphere at B& Js. It was just so different to anything Id seen back home! A breakfast party there has got to be one of the best things to do in Breaux Bridge, which is a city near Lafayette.

If you want to keep going after the music stops, move on to Tante Marie down the street for a jam session then wind up back at B& Js in the afternoon.
