Listen To The My Brother My Brother And Me Podcast
The McElroy family are Huntington people! The dad, Clint, was on local radio for years and also writes an article in the Huntington Quarterly. His sons the stars of the show got his funny and creative genes, and their podcast about life has taken off and become nationally known. WARNING: The content is a bit spicy and so is the language, but it is funny and worth listening to so youre up-to-speed on what makes Huntington unique and cool.
Shave And A Haircut At Jims Barbershop
Barbers never used to take appointments. The Barbershop was a place to sit and talk and get to know other men in the community. Somehow Jim has captured that aesthetic. Hidden away in a little section of Westmoreland is an old school barbershop called Jims. Go there and get a shave and a hair cut. Jim is a former law enforcement officer, and hes well versed on just about every topic. He gives a great haircut and knows how to use a straight blade. Attention to detail is Jims thing. Go to Jims Barbershop and experience excellence!

We visited Saturday 12/21/19. We were in Huntington for the Candlenights Podcasts Taping that afternoon. Unfortunately we had to cut our visit to the museum a little short so we could get back in to town for that. Our docent, Dave Bond, was a real gem. He was knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and didn’t even flinch at what were probably some pretty stupid questions. The collection is extensive. The demonstrations are informative. We enjoyed ourselves very much.Just a side note – they had put so much effort into decorating the place for the holidays – that was icing on the cake.If anyone in your group is interested in radio / TV / phonographs / computers / HAM / or just history, this is really worth a visit. There was a donation box on the way out. We were more than happy to contribute.

Watch A Dutch Miller Commercial
Chris Miller and Wes Thompson of Dutch Miller Automotive might be the craziest and most creative people in the region. The commercials they produce for Dutch Miller Automotive are at times enough to make you laugh hilariously turn away in disgust or embarrassment or prompt you to want to buy a car. Whatever it is, this creative team has managed to make the region laugh and cringe for more than two decades. Theyre history is all on , and some of it is comedy gold. Watch something they create, then maybe go buy a car from them so they can keep producing funny/annoying commercials.

Stop For Lunch On The Patio At Mountwest
This is a bit of a hidden gem in Huntington that most people dont know exists. Venture up the hill to the campus of Mountwest Community and Technical College. There is plenty of parking. Behind the building on the first floor is a modern and beautiful sitting area. Most of the time this space is hardly used. Pack a lunch and have a nice little experience there. You will enjoy it. Its beautiful!

Appreciate Natures Beauty At Ritter Park
Dating back to 1913, this is the oldest and one of the most popular parks of this city which is frequented by both tourists and locals alike. It features a picturesque, manicured rose garden, playground, the Four Pole Creek, picnic areas, nature trails, grills, an amphitheatre, multiple tennis courts, and a sledding hill. It offers spectacular views in all four seasons. Hike along the verdant trails that run parallel to the enchanting creek and appreciate nature, play a game of tennis, view the brilliantly coloured roses at the garden, make some burgers on the grills, and end your day with a lovely picnic against the scenic backdrops.
This park is host to a multitude of events throughout the year including musical concerts, plays, tennis tournaments, Easter egg hunts, antique car shows, art and music festivals, and others. Owing to its scenic views and tranquil atmosphere, this also happens to be a popular wedding venue. You can spend your day sitting on one of the benches or under a tree and enjoying a good book. This is a perfect place to take a break from the mundane and monotonous daily routine and escape into nature.
Touma Museum Of Medicine Huntington West Virginia
The Touma Museum of Medicine was founded by Dr. Joe Touma. He is retired physician whose specialty was otology, the study of the ears anatomy and the understanding of how ear diseases occur. Before opening the museum, Dr. Joe had been collecting medical devices and instruments over a period of 40 years. Many of his first pieces included ear trumpets and instruments used to detect hearing loss. Then he began collecting medical devices that related to the nose and throat. He also found historical medical books on ENT ear, nose, and throat. Using his discoveries as inspiration, Touma invented 14 medical instruments of his own.

Tour The Huntington Museum Of Art
Imagine my surprise when we pulled in the parking lot of the Huntington Museum of Art and saw a huge Dale Chihuly art installment through through a section of the building. I couldnt wait to go in!
The Huntington Museum of Art is not only an art gallery but also an educational facility and plant conservatory. The C. Fred Edwards Conservatory has both tropical and subtropical plants, palms, and flowers, which made me feel right at home since I now live in South Florida.
Nearly 100 varieties of orchids delicately scented the air as we walked around admiring the fruit and nut-bearing trees and unique flowers. If youve never smelled the extremely fragrant frangipanis, the flowers that Hawaiian leis are made from, this is your chance.
Back to the Chihuly piece, the glass statue was made from 352 hand-blown pieces. Nearby, was a large aquarium with a plethora of different colorful specimens. The Huntington Museum of Art provided a label/guide to identify the exotic fish, which I enjoyed looking at.
Inside the Huntington Museum of Art gallery were works from Roy Lichtenstein, Pablo Picasso, and Robert Rauschenberg, to name a few. The Wilbur Myers Glass Collection contains 1,000 glass objects that I found to be an exceptional offering and display. There are European, Asian, American, and Caribbean art pieces throughout the museum. One gallery held antique or vintage firearms, which were excellently displayed and explained.
Harris Riverfront Park Huntington West Virginia
Harris Riverfront Park is a local waterfront park that offers views of the Ohio River. It features an amphitheater that overlooks the river and hosts many summer concerts, and other live events. It also can be rented for a wedding or a private party. In addition to the amphitheater, a childs playground and a skate park were added to Harris Riverfront Park in 2014. For leisurely recreation, walkers can take a stroll on the Paul Ambrose Trail that leads to a larger exercise area. Finally, the park provides lots of seating areas underneath tall trees that provide ample shade.

Get A Root Beer Float At Frostop
A town full of hot dog restaurants is going to be a town with fantastic root beer! The best weve found is at Frostop. The other great thing about this place is the giant root beer mug that spins on their roof. Make sure to get a selfie with this in the background.
Note: I personally like myself a Root Beer from Stewarts but the majority of the people I talk with really like their beer from Frostop.
Buy Shoes At Roberts Running
A locally owned shoe shop is pretty unique in most communities. If you have one, celebrate it and shop there regularly. Roberts Running and Walking has been around for more than a decade. They specialize in high-end running and walking shoes and unique socks that people who run really like to wear. Go and talk with one of their trained sales reps and buy a pair of shoes that work for you. Then make it a point to sign up for a local race either the Marshall Marathon or one of the many 5k events that take place in the Huntington area every weekend.
