Historic Oakland Mansion Columbia Maryland
Dating back to 1811, the historic Oakland Mansion is one of the oldest buildings in Columbia. Once the country home of Charles Sterrett Ridgely the mansion is of particular interest to any architecture enthusiast since it combines elements from different architectural eras, including Federal, Greek Revival and Colonial Revival periods. Today the mansion is a popular venue for weddings and celebrations and hosts a twice/monthly afternoon tea on the first and last Thursday of each month. The lovely old home is surrounded by beautiful formal gardens which include many plantings which would have been popular choices back when the mansion was originally built.

Best Places To Visit In Howard County Maryland
I am often asked What are the best places to visit right here in Howard County? This is a tough question because there are so many interesting spots across the county. Visiting them all would literally fill up your weekends for the entire year. I therefore am not going to start with just a short, limited list. I think you are better served if I group many of them together into general categories for this post. Throughout the coming year I will try to be even more specific as to my favorite places within these larger categories. That approach will be easier for you and will also better illustrate the wealth of beautiful sites in our county and what we all need to do to restore and maintain these special places for us and for future generations.
Go Rock Climbing At Earth Treks
If the weather isnt great, check out Earth Treks off Columbia Gateway Drive. In the past few years they have moved locations into a bigger warehouse, and have more than 42,000 square feet of indoor rock climbing, including top rope and bouldering.
Theres also a yoga studio and a fitness area.
Membership is a little pricey if youre not very dedicated, but a day pass is just $22. Rock climbing sounds dangerous and scary, but its quite safe when youre being smart, and an amazing full-body workout.

Because it has great public schools, is an easy commute to Baltimore and Washington D.C., and real estate prices arent as bad as D.C. Historic Ellicott City is also a quick drive from town center, and the quality of life is pretty darn good.
