Bastrop County Museum And Visitor Center
The Bastrop County Museum and Visitor Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the history of this region.
The museum was established in 1952. The growth of the museum is a result of its large collection of historical artifacts over time.
The museum is currently situated in a revamped historic city hall, and it has been an abode for this museum since 2012.
Exhibits to find here have a history stretching back to 200 years, ranging from early European dwellers in the 1960s to Native American artifacts to documents and other documents.
The historical information to find here is explained through chronological dioramas and unique exhibits on coal mining, farming, and they are new.

The County Museum of Bastrop was a police station in the 1930s.
Though it does not curb crime anymore, the place is still devoted to serving the people.

Culturally, they also include antiques from the Native Americans and the old European Settlers.

The Lost Pines Art Center covers an indoor and outdoor space of over 12,000 square feet at the 100-year-old Powell Cotton seed Mill and Silos.

We stopped in on an oil pastel workshop, where a local artist demonstrated and helped students learn how to use and blend oil pastels as a medium! Its a fun activity with something for everyone, supports the community, and is an excellent way to really experience Bastrops real culture.

This majestic building is a fixture in downtown San Marcos. Its a part of the National Register of Historic Places and recognized by the Texas Historical Commission.

Bastrop County Courthouse and JailBastrop Countys courthouse and jail are two historic late 19th-century buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The courthouse, built in 1883 and still in use today, features the arched windows and imposing clock tower of the Romanesque Revival style of architecture. Meanwhile, the 1891 Old County Jail is considered a masterpiece of second-empire Victorian. Fly Through The Treetops At Zip Lost Pines
Theres a zip line in the county as well. Not only it is exciting, but it also offers the beautiful nature while youre in the air.
If youve ever wanted to zip line, Id highly suggest you get yourself to Zip Lost Pines in Cedar Creek! The Texas Hill Country is incredible, and to see it from up high, flying across the treetops and winding Colorado River is fantastic! Be prepared to climb up a ladder with assistance and hike a few short trails to get to the line. They have six different lines set up for a full tour of the entire site, and are preparing to unveil upgrades and renovations for the 2020 season on March 1st!
The full-tour is about 2.5-3 hours total, and it was a fantastic experience. There are no age limits, just height, and weight requirements: minimum 52 and between 60 and 250 lbs. You should also know that when you make a reservation, that tours happen rain or shine. I cant wait to go back and try out the night tour! Its probably terrifying and exhilarating at the same time, but I would love to see those Texas stars from up there! Check this out!
