Atlantic City With Kids: In The Summer
Atlantic City Beach So as I mentioned, Atlantic City is a beach town. In fact, its nicknamed The City by the Sea. When we visit in the summer, we always spend a day at the beach.
Not all of the casinos are located on the beach if you want to be able to walk right out of your hotel onto the sand, then look at staying at the Tropicana , Ballys, Caesars, Resorts, Hard Rock or Ocean.
I love that the piers and jetties keep the water calm. The beach is free and there are lifeguards. Since we drive to Atlantic City we load up our car with all our beach essentials. But, you can rent chairs from the hotel and you can pick up some sand toys in one of the little dollar shops on the boardwalk.

Bike Riding on the Atlantic City Boardwalk
: The company that rented bikes at Tropicana and Resorts has closed down. I talked to the woman at the Tourism Board and she mentioned the proprietor retired and they were looking for someone to take over. Fingers crossed that they do! In the meantime, you can bring your own bike and bike on the boardwalk from 6am to noon in the summer months!
: I was walking along the Boardwalk with hubby and saw a bike share kiosk near Ocean Casino did not snag a pic, but this is promising!
This is probably MY favorite Atlantic City activity, and something my kids look forward to doing each summer!
Atlantic City Surf School

If youre interested in things to do in Atlantic City that involve water sports, youll love a lesson or two with Atlantic City Surf School.
Of note, the school offers private and group lessons, as well as camps if youll be in town for a bit.
Additionally, lessons are scaffolded by beginner and intermediate groups.
During surf lessons, youll learn to paddle out, stand up, ride waves, and maneuver the board.
Sessions run seven days a week during the summer months and theyre a unique way to experience the Atlantic Ocean.
In addition to traditional surf lessons, the school also gives Standup Paddleboard lessons.
On top of learning to ride the different boards, Atlantic City Surf School also teaches surf etiquette and respect for the movement and uncertainty of the ocean.
Finally, things to do in Atlantic City are a dime a dozen, but Atlantic City Surf School is a class act.

Lucy The Elephant: An Awesome Kid
While not located within Atlantic City limits, Lucy the Elephant may be one of the most kid-friendly attractions near the city. Afterall, what could possibly be more fun than hanging out on a beach that has a 65-foot pachyderm? Thats large enough to be seen from 8-miles out at sea without binoculars. Hard Rock Hotel And Casino Atlantic City
The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Atlantic City opened in 2018 and is located in the former Trump Taj Mahal just off of the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Inside you will find a huge casino floor, the Hard Rock Theater which hosts some pretty big names, and a wide array of fine dining options, lounges, and nightclubs. You can find live entertainment every night of the week throughout the resort and if you decide to spend the night at the attached hotel, you can access all of the great amenities that you would expect from a Hard Rock Hotel.

See A Show At The Boardwalk Hall
In addition to mouth-watering treats, bar hopping, sightseeing, the Boardwalk boasts a variety of entertainment shows, such as sports events, concerts, stand-up comedies, and more! Everyone from the Rolling Stones to Beyoncé has played here, and summer always promises big names.
This seaside convention hall is also home to Miss America Pageant since 1940, which used to draw tens of thousands of pageant spectators.
An interesting fact about the Boardwalk Hall is that it houses the largest musical instrument in the world, a pipe organ that has over 33,000 pipes and eight chambers. Every Monday, there is a free half-hour concert and tour of the organ.

Steel Pier Amusement Park is a top 10 Atlantic City attraction thats suitable for visitors of all ages.
New Jersey is fraught with shore towns and boardwalks but this boardwalk amusement park takes the cake.

Take A Ride On The Steel Pier
This iconic 1,000 feet long pier amusement park has been around for decades since 1898 and is once a theatre for bands like The Beatles and Frank Sinatra. It went through many renovations since 1924 after natural disasters and different owners and in the late 1980s to focus more on games and rides.
Now, you can let your inner kids on everything from Grand Carousel to the Slingshot, which propels you into the air at 100 miles an hour. Also, the park features a full-service pub and bar, with plenty of options for food and drink. If you want to enjoy the Boardwalk and coastline from above, you can embark on a helicopter right from the Steel Pier.

Places To Eat In Atlantic City For Kids
There are plenty of places to eat in Atlantic City for kids who want casual but good food. This being New Jersey, the Italian food is excellent.
Some of our favourite places to eat in Atlantic City with kids are:
- The Broadway Burger Bar where in addition to the burgers youd expect, they serve monster milkshakes with cookies, cereal, pretzels, and sweets stacked sky-high on top.
- Carmines Italian Restaurant serves excellent spaghetti and other Italian food. for more.
- Tony Boloneys and his world-famous taco pizza is a must with the kids. Here you will find all kinds of scrumptious combinations such as mac-n cheese pizza.
Work off all the food youll eat at the Atlantic City beaches.
Take A Walk On The Wild Side
At the Atlantic City Bass Pro Shops, shoppers can walk through a store that might have you questioning just where you are. In one end of the store theres stuffed bears, raccoons, and other forest creatures. In another end theres a deep fish tank where a few times a week a staff member feeds the fish and discusses the species in the tank. Visitors are encouraged to stay, watch, and ask questions. The Borgata Hotel Casino
Even if you are not staying at one of the 2002 rooms of the Borgata, New Jerseys largest hotel, you can still have fun here.

In Atlantic City, the African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey has a vast collection of paintings, ceramics and advertising and branding memorabilia that portray African Americans in both a flattering and unflattering way. Its unsettling to read some of the signage and understand how so many of the brands we are familiar with treated the African American community and the brand spokemodels so negatively, but its important to see it. We booked one night at Balleys, which is one subsidiary hotel of Ceaser, and the room for two with great ocean views costs only $104 plus tax.
Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa , Hard Rock Hotel& Casino , and Ocean Casino Resort are also great options if you are looking for a more high-end experience.
For more wallet-friendly hotels, consider Balleys , Harrahs Resort Atlantic City , and Showboat Atlantic City . There are also quality Airbnbs of much lower prices if you dont mind living a bit away from the casinos and major attractions.

Pipe Organ Tour Atlantic City New Jersey
Visit the worlds largest pipe organ at the Boardwalk Hall and enjoy a free, behind-the-scenes tour of this magnificent musical instrument on Wednesdays at 10 am. Designed by Emerson L. Richards and built in the early 1930s by the Midmer-Losh Organ Company, the Boardwalk Hall Pipe Organ was initially created to provide the soundtrack for silent movies. Although the organ has not been functional for years, it has been beautifully restored. Free guided tours are offered every Wednesday which explore the history of the organ and the buildi.

Search For Dolphins Aboard A Dolphin Cruise
Third in our things to do in Atlantic City with kids is our suggestion to get out onto the water with a dolphin cruise. Atlantic City Cruises in Gardeners Basin offers daily dolphin cruises during the summer and three times a week in the spring and fall. We first did this South Jersey dolphin cruise when my youngest was 4 years old. We just returned and now hes 10. Where does the time go? But all my boys from the big kid to the teen enjoyed our dolphin cruise. Not only did we see several dolphins aboard our two hour cruise, but it was also a wonderful way to see some of Atlantic Citys best attractions from a different point of view.
When you go on your dolphin cruise you could see leaping, frolicking dolphins or they could be a little harder to see if they are in hunting mode. For us, Captain and Owner Jeff gave a highly educational commentary that taught us about the different dolphin behaviors and how some of those behaviors can make dolphin harder to see at times. Theyll stay underwater longer and their trips to the surface will be brief. Dont let that discourage you though. Captain Jeff was determined and he and his teams know the ocean waters well. If they cant find dolphins in one area they will take the dolphin cruise to another area.

Splurge At One Of The Fine Dining Restaurants
With a Las Vegas vibe, Atlantic City features many restaurants owned by renowned chefs, such as Chef Volas and Bobby Flay Steak. Most of the great ones are in Caesars resort, such as the Gordan Ramsay Pub & Grill, KWI Restaurant and Noodle Bar, and Neros Italian Steakhouse. The quality of the food, as well as the dining ambiance, is not something you can get from your go-to Chinese spot.
If you are looking for a romantic date or a place to celebrate your anniversary, these are the spots to hit! A friendly reminder: they tend to be filled quickly and book your spot in advance. Also, for some, there are dress codes. So, dont just show up in your beach pants or flip flops. Doll yourself up!

Ever since New Jersey residents voted in favor of legalized gambling in Atlantic City in 1976 in an attempt to try and reverse the citys rapid decline, the city has gone from being primarily a fun in the sun type destination at the start of the 20th century to being one of the biggest gambling destinations in the USA. Flash forward 45 years after that historic vote and Atlantic City is full of great casino resorts that offer much more than just a slot machine or a blackjack table. Many of the resorts rival what you would find in Las Vegas with tons of entertainment, dining, and nightlife options. Since many of them are located conveniently right on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, it is easy to casino hop the day or evening away.
