If you love unique adventures you definitely want to take a ride on the 1859 Balloon Voyage if you visit during the summer.
Even though the 1859 Balloon Voyage looks extreme, you will find that the tethered balloon ride is very kid-friendly, smooth, and relaxing.
If you get the chance to go up in the balloon you will love the views!
The average ride lasts 10-15 minutes for up to 20 people which includes ascending and descending.
The 1859 Balloon Voyage will not operate if the weather conditions are not safe.
While you are in the area, I also highly recommend visiting the aerial park at Koteewi Archery Park that has 60 treetop trails and zip lines.
Stroll Along The Central Canal
Tracking through the heart of Downtown Indy and up to the north, the Central Canal is more than just a pretty waterway its also one of the citys most scenic spots for exercise and people-watching.
The view of the downtown Indianapolis Skyline from the canal is impressive, the walk at and just after sunset is romantic, and the array of shops and restaurants branching off from the main route is diverse and welcoming all up, a non-negotiable destination for a late afternoon stroll.
Of course, with a range of boats sailing through the canal, you can jump aboard a cruise for a new perspective altogether.

A Sugarplum Breakfast would normally be attended by familiar characters from “The Nutcracker,” but that has been canceled this season.

Pedal Boating On The Canal
You haven’t seen Indianapolis until you’ve seen it from the water. Work your feet on a pedal boat along the three-mile Downtown canal and back.
Cost: Pedal boats, which seat up to four, are $35. If you have landlubbers in your family, consider a bike rental, which starts at $25. You can squeeze three adults and two small children in the front basket onto a bike.

Kid City At Greenwood Community Center

Indiana Medical History Museum
The Indiana Medical History Museum is located on the grounds of the former Central State Hospital on the near west side of Indianapolis. The heart of the museum is the Old Pathology Building, the oldest surviving pathology facility in the nation. The Building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Today, visitors can explore the teaching amphitheater laboratories for bacteriology, clinical chemistry, histology, and photography the library, reception room, and records room as well as the autopsy room and anatomical museum which houses preserved specimens–mostly brains, organized by pathology.

Make sure you get your free tickets to the dolphin show at the entrance. Since the dolphin shows have open seating, youll want to arrive early to get a prime spot. There are splash zones, too, if you feel like getting a little wet during the 15-minute show.
When youre done watching the dolphins jump, head below and get a glimpse of them in the underwater viewing area.
Another favorite here is the International Orangutan Center, especially important since orangutans are critically endangered, with only 6,500 left in the wild. The center houses eight orangutans. The exhibit is huge, with a cathedral ceiling high enough to send my heart aflutter. This Orangutan Center is considered essential in the preservation of these apes.
As you make your way through the zoo, youll encounter many more animals to delight: tigers, polar bears, sea lions, walrus, zebra, rhinoceros, and SO many more.
There are many opportunities to purchase add-ons for your Indianapolis Zoo experience. Choose from the 4-D theater, carousel, Kmbo coaster, Skyline gondola rides, White River Junction train, the worlds LARGEST shark touch tank, bird and giraffe feedings.

Head Underground To The Catacombs
Bet you didnt know Indy had Catacombs! You can explore the citys subterranean secrets on an exclusive underground tour of this former high-trafficked route, which has been transformed into a labyrinth of tunnels and chambers accessible via the northeast corner of Market and Delaware streets.
The catacombs, dating back to the late 1880s, were once used as a means of transporting and storing goods from the overhead market before it was eventually abandoned, but still boasts remnants of the once-grand Tomlinson Hall.
Take note: tours usually only run the first and third Saturdays of each month, May through October, so be sure to check ahead
