Located on the north end of Virginia Beach, along the Chesapeake, the 2,888-acre First Landing State Park offers a variety of ecological environments. Youll find over a mile of beautiful shoreline, salt marsh, forested dunes, bald cypress swamps and freshwater wetlands. You can hike and bike the 19 miles of trails that cover all these natural habitats. There is a campground and cabin rentals so you make this convenient location the homebase of your vacation. Bike rentals are available at the campground store or from several businesses in Virginia Beach.

Riverbend Park Great Falls
At Riverbend Park, the Potomac River is wide, open, and perfect for boating and fishing. The Potomac Heritage Trail follows the banks of the river in both directions and is surrounded by a profusion of bluebells in spring. Head east and you can hike to Great Falls Park. The visitor center offers interesting, kid-friendly displays and there’s a big porch for relaxing while the kids play in the picnic area. $2 donation suggested. Best for family gatherings and kids who like to hike.

The top of Mount Trashmore is also a popular kite-flying destination. The park lends out, for free, badminton equipment, corn hole boards and bags, horseshoes, volleyballs and nets, footballs and Frisbees. And yes, the mountain is made out of trash, but its all been upcycled into a beautiful park.

The kids can enjoy a Surrey bike ride, along the three mile long boardwalk while they admire the fun sculptures along the way, especially the giant King Neptune statue.
There are so many kid friendly restaurants, and many other fun family attractions as well. Virginia Beach is one of our favorite summer destinations, theres always something going on here for the whole family!

Assateague Beach
Assateague Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Virginia. This barrier island on the Eastern shores of Virginia is a hidden gem in the state, and one place I highly recommend you visit. Where else can you lounge on the beach and see wild ponies!
The beach is located on Assateague Island, which boasts pristine beaches on a 37 mile long island along the coasts of Maryland and Virginia.
Entrance is free on foot or on a bicycle, or if coming in by car, there is a fee to enter this National Park. Once you arrive there is metered parking by the beach.

Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum
Loudoun County has a rich history of farming, and the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum brings this part of history to life in an exciting, family-friendly way. The exhibits cover 250 years of farming heritage, and many of them include interactive areas where kids can milk play cows, use historical farm kitchen tools, and pretend to be students in a 1909 one-room schoolhouse. In addition to the farming exhibits, there’s also a section dedicated to the history area’s indigenous inhabitants, including a display of arrowheads and other tools. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, and the last admission is always at 4 p.m.
