The San Antonio Museum of Art is one of San Antonio’s premiere art museums, originally opened to the public in 1981 within the city’s renovated historic Lone Star Brewery complex. The museum serves as the anchor today of the Museum Reach of the city’s River Walk and houses an impressive collection of more than 30,000 artworks and artifacts spanning from antiquity to the present day, including some of the nation’s most impressive collections of ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and Asian art. Other substantial collections include Latin American and contemporary art collections, including one of the nation’s most impressive collections of Latin American folk art. Visitors can explore the museum for free on Tuesday evenings between 4:00pm and 9:00pm or Sunday mornings between 10:00am and noon, though some special exhibits still require a ticketed upcharge.

La Villita Historic Arts Village

Included in the National Registry of Historic Districts, La Villita Historic Arts Village is a one of a kind spot in San Antonio to visit.

We totally loved the art galleries and cosy vintage haunts that are all so cute.

Plus, its really easy to visit after strolling the River Walk as its just across from the Briscoe Western Art Museum. Which, incidentally is a must-visit museum in the city, too!

Go And Watch A Performance At The Tobin Center For The Performing Arts


To see more of the artsy side of San Antonio, away from the scary spooks of history, wed recommend heading to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts for something fun and cultural to do in San Antonio at night. Built-in 1926 this historic venue is the place to be for concerts, ballet performances and loads of other acts. Its claims to fame include a gig by Paul McCartney and even a presidential election speech by Barack Obama. Comedy nights, musicals like and a ton of other things await you at this storied venue along the River Walk.

Explore Architecture History And Culture At A Former Brewery

Ever had a Pabst Blue Ribbon? Well, the historic Pearl Brewery, where it was brewed, is now a mixed use campus of housing, retail, and public space. Weekly Farmers Markets take place on the grounds. Have little kiddos? The Twig Bookstore at the Pearl has a weekly storytime at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays. Love to boogie? During the summer, the Pearl hosts a weekly dance series every Wednesday at the Pearl Stable. Doors open at 5:30 and music starts at 6 p.m. There also are First Thursday night markets year-round with live music and a special theme every month.

A new Blue Star arts installation, Rainbow Dancing During Pandemia, will pay homage to and educate visitors about David Zamora Casas, a staple of the local arts community for nearly four decades. The exhibit turns the complexs Jojo Dancer Studio and Gallery into an intimate portal placing Zamora Casass work front and center.

The public will be able to visit Rainbow Dancing During Pandemia for free during First Friday as well as during a Saturday artists reception. After that, visits will be by appointment only.

When: Friday and Saturday, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. both evenings.

Rio San Antonio Cruise

Kids will enjoy playing with some of the apparatus and trying on the fire suites.

Travel To The Stars At Scobee

Looking to leave” your home base on Earth for a while? You can bring the whole family with you with explorations of one of our galaxys most fascinating phenomena.

Chris Packham, an astronomer and professor at UTSA, will lead a pair of Friday-evening presentations on the interstellar wonders that loom overhead at the Scobee Education Center, where the planetarium is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Come early for a tour of the Moon, planets and constellations, and make it a cosmic doubleheader with the late show at 9:30 p.m. on black holes.

When: Friday, at 8 p.m. for the show “The Sky Tonight” and at 9:30 p.m. for “Black Holes.” The shows will run between 40 and 50 minutes.

Cost: $4 for children under 18 and seniors 65+, $5 for adults 18+. $4 for those who provide military ID, and for teachers who provide school ID. Tickets go on sale an hour before each show starts, and families are expected to arrive early there is a 101-seat capacity. Find more information here.

For a unique San Antonio experience, visit the San Fernando Cathedral to view The Saga. If you have older kids who stay up late, try this art installation by Xavier de Richmont, which is projected onto the side of the Cathedral on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 9, 9:30 and 10 p.m. The multimedia show covers centuries of San Antonio history.
