Louisville is a very large city, and most of its locals divide it mentally into four parts: West End, East End, South End, and Downtown. And while each part of Louisville has its own highlights, for the purposes of your trip to Louisville, Im choosing to focus on the Downtown area and its surrounding neighborhoods.

The neighborhoods below are easiest to get around without having to rent a car by walking, biking, or taking public transit. Also, there is a higher concentration of awesome stuff to do for visitors to Louisville. So even though us locals have love for the West End, East End, and South End, Downtown and its surrounding neighborhoods are the most tourist-friendly parts of the city.

Visit The Historic Riverside House:

Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing, is the centerpiece of a 300-acre historic site in Louisville, Kentucky. It was built around 1837 and is located along the banks of the Ohio River. The house is a red brick I-house with a two-story Greek Revival portico. Riverside House is open for educational and archaeological tours.

The 300-acre historic site also includes a visitors center, Archaeological site biking, historic house museum, community garden, a gift shop, and provides scenic Ohio River views.

You can enjoy a tour of the historic house and grounds. The tour includes the 1837 Farnsley-Moremen House, the reconstructed 19th century detached kitchen, museum exhibits, a museum store, African Americans experiences at Riverside, and ongoing archaeological excavations. Fossil Beds At The Falls Of The Ohio

What to Expect: The Fossil Beds at the Falls of the Ohio State Park date back nearly 400 million years. For a $2 parking fee, access to the Fossil Beds is a short hike down to the river. Be sure to wear good hiking shoes or boots. Bring a bucket and a brush to clear debris from fossils. Hours: 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

    Opened in 2000, Louisville Slugger Field is a baseball stadium with has a seating capacity of more than 13,000 people and is the home of the Louisville Bats baseball team and the Louisville City FC professional soccer club.

    The stadium is unique in that an old train shed has been incorporated into its design visitors enter the stadium through this train shed, which was formerly the Brinly-Hardy Company warehouse. It also features 32 private suites, concessions, press facilities, and a childrens play area. Visitors can see both the state of Indiana and the Ohio River from the stadium.

    Baseball fans should make time to visit the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory where you can watch bat making demonstrations and go on guided factory tours.

    The Big Four Bridge Louisville Kentucky

    The Big Four Bridge is a former railroad truss bridge that spans the Ohio River, connecting Louisville with Jeffersonville in Indiana. Constructed in 1895, the six-span bridge spans a length of 2,525 feet and is 547 feet and was converted into a pedestrian and bicycle bridge in 1969, earning it the nickname of the Bridge That Goes Nowhere.
