The Antique Fan Museum
The Antique Fan Museum is a free-admission museum in Zionsville, showcasing a collection of more than 2,000 antique and historic fan models. The museum was originally opened in Wichita, Kansas in 1997 by the Antique Fan Collectors Museum and relocated to the Indianapolis area in 2009 with the help of ceiling fan manufacturer Fanimation founder and AFCA member Tom Frampton. Today, the museum is operated within the Fanimation facility in Bennett Technology Park, housing collections of fans from both the original AFCA collection and Frampton’s personal historic fan collection, including battery, water, steam, and electric powered fans and handheld fans dating back to the 1880s. The museum is open to the public Mondays through Fridays during business hours, with parking available within the adjacent technology park.

The Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art is Indianapolis’ only dedicated museum displaying the works of emerging contemporary artists, open to the public daily during exhibitions from 9:00am to 7:00pm. The free-admission museum was originally founded in 2001 as a temporary traveling “museum without walls,” moving into its current gallery space at the Alexander Hotel at CityWay in 2014. It is scheduled to move into a new permanent gallery home in mid-2019, located on the site of the city’s former Ford assembly plant. New gallery exhibitions are rotated approximately every two months, showcasing the works of local, regional, and national artists, with exhibits often developed by emerging curators. Visitors should check the museum’s exhibit schedule to confirm exhibit dates, as the museum is closed to the public between exhibitions. Metered street parking is available nearby and is free to the public on Sundays.

Travel To Year 1836 At Conner Prairie
How impressed would you be if your gadget-loving tween got excited about history? Thats exactly what happened to me.
I went into Conner Prairie thinking it was just a historical museum. A place where old buildings and artifacts were on display, waiting for me to interpret and make them interesting for my kids.
I was 50% right. Yes, there are a ton of artifacts and old places at Conner Prairie. But the museum signs I expected they werent there.
Instead, there were people in their place acting out what might have appeared on a sign in a different museum.
I found myself drawn in and learning about pioneer life right alongside my kids.
The Prairietown village is set up as if it were 1836. Every character in the town has a role to play and a house to live in or a place to work. The characters all know each other and talk about each other.
Blacksmith Shop at Conner Prairie
My three kids were captivated by the three women in the doctors house. They sat and chit-chatted with the characters for at least 15 minutes, and wouldve stayed longer if time would have allowed.
This photo below shows the carpenter telling them how to carve a bowl. He also tried to enlist my 11-year old son as an apprentice. We couldve visited my son once a year, hed get a good education, room and board, and learn a trade. Sounds like a good deal to me!
Candle-dipping and other pioneer activities are also available. Some have a fee.

Greensburg, 50 miles southeast of Indianapolis, will offer the free babysitting service for the next six to 12 months as part of the program it’s calling “Grandparents on Demand.” Kids are also guaranteed to have a fill-in grandma and grandpa on Grandparents Day at school a perk for those moving far away from family.
Just two weeks after the initiative launched, more than 1,000 applications have rolled in, said Evan Hock, co-founder of Indianapolis-based MakeMyMove, an online directory that connects remote workers with such offers around the country. Hock said the unique incentive has been a “big contributor” to the influx of interest, and considerations are now being made to scale-up the Greensburg program, depending on housing availability.
In addition to free grandparents, the Greensburg relocation package includes $5000 in cash, a one-year membership to the local YMCA and co-working space, free tickets to the local theatre, and some gift cards to the farmers market.
It’s unclear if the free grandparents come with Royal Dansk cookie tins disappointingly filled with sewing supplies or occasionally antiquated views on gender and race.
