Family Things To Do In Vermont

Pond Hill Ranch Pro Rodeo Company

Brattleboro Vermont | Things to Do | Maple Syrup Farm and more!

You dont have to travel to the Midwest to enjoy an authentic, down-home rodeo.

The Pond Hill Ranch Pro Rodeo Company will give you a bellyful of dirt, dust, steers and spurs right in the heart of Vermont!

Held every Saturday, these rodeo shows are the real deal.

Theyre sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Organization , and events include everything from calf roping and steer wrestling to barrel racing and bull riding.

Theres also saddle and bareback bronc riding for multiple kinds of edge-of-your-seat action!

Despite the excitement, however, the rodeos are very family-friendly.

Youll find tons of parents and kids crammed onto the stadium benches.

You can even come back on weekdays for the ranchs all-ages horseback riding lessons.

If you love the rodeo, you wont want to miss the Pond Hill Ranch Pro Rodeo Company.

Its a Midwestern experience in a New England setting, and thats rare enough to justify a visit all on its own.

Iv Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream

Ben & Jerrys is one of those boxes that everyone who visits Vermont has to tick. With that being said, it was our least favorite stop.

All of our tasting experiences prior to this stop were small, authentic, relaxed, true farm country Vermont. Ben & Jerrys feels like the Disney World of tasting tours.

They cram you into a room like cattle with thousands of other people waiting for your tour time to be called out on a loudspeaker. Tour bus after tour bus dropped off hundreds more.

The actual tour itself was just okay. We actually enjoyed the grounds of the place the best.

The flavor graveyard was really fun. So were all of the photo props that you can take pictures with.

The best part was actually a few activity booths outside while people wait for tour times. We tye died t-shirts at one of the booths which Sissy loved.

Overall, I am glad we went, but I would not go again. We prefer the laid-back tastings at the smaller places to have that true Vermont feel. We bought some ice cream and ticked the box.

Robert Frost Interpretive Trail

Robert Frost Interpretive Trail

Even if youre an avid hiker, youve probably never seen anything like the Robert Frost Interpretive Trail.

Not only does it offer beautiful sightseeing in the fields of Ripton, Vermont, but its also dotted with plaques of poetry from Robert Frost!

The trail itself is an easy, 1.2 mile loop, so its suitable for folks of all ages.

It doesnt matter if youre taking a leisurely walk with your stroller or warming up for an epic triathlon the trail is neat, clean and well-marked with directions.

The highlight, of course, is the poetry thats featured every so often along the mile.

Some of them might be known to you others might be rarer or more easily forgotten outside of a high school English classroom.

Either way, however, youre sure to enjoy the Robert Frost Interpretive Trail.

Its a must do for any literary nerds out there, but itll be nice for all.

Bring Your Canine Pal To Dog Mountain

One of the quirkier Vermont tourist attractions out there is Dog Mountain. I havent yet been to this canine mecca, but I am anxious to go.

Dog Mountain is a private mountaintop spot in St. Johnsbury that belonged to artist Stephen Huneck. Today, it houses a gallery, a dog chapel, and hosts several events throughout the year. Dogs are always welcome on the property to run free and enjoy the sights alongside their human companions.

Vermont is a haven for skiers, giving them their pick of an array of downhill experiences. From mega-mountains like Killington, Sugarbush, and Stowes Mount Mansfield, the powder is beckoning. Killington, The Beast of the East, is the largest with six mountains of terrain. It is also typically the first of the mountains to open in November each year.

Smugglers Notch, Vermonts largest mountain resort area, is also a favorite for families with its kid-friendly beginner area and indoor pools to enjoy.

If you arent ready to start taking on those double-black diamond trails just yet, theres also a smaller family-friendly ski resort for you in Vermont. Check out the elegantly groomed and affordable Burke Mountain, home of the first ski academy in the United States. Many of the runs seem made for novice skiers.

Theres also Bolton Valley, which caters to varying skill levels. The Bolton Valley All Access Lift Ticket even provides access to the Sports Center with a pool and games for kids. So wax your skis, get out that equipment, the mountains are waiting for you.

Weather In Vermont In Winter

Visiting Vermont: Things To Do with Family

In winter, temperatures in Vermont plummet and often drop as low as -16 degrees Celsius . Be prepared to wrap up warm!

These cold temperatures are usually accompanied by plenty of snow, with frequent snowstorms in December and January, which can leave very deep snow packs. My advice? Come prepared for very cold weather, but remember the snow makes the views even more spectacular.

Visit Vermonts Oldest General Store

The state has many picturesque general stores that should be on your list of Vermont places to visit. While you likely will want to visit the well known Vermont Country Store, nothing compares to an old-fashioned, historic general store.

Many of these claim to be the oldest in Vermont. I am partial to believe the oldest is FH Gillingham and Sons in Woodstock. No matter its age, it is incredibly charmingand they also have a great wine selection.
