Visit A Local Museum Zoo Or Other Historic Attaction
Most families have fewer commitments during the summertime which makes it the perfect season to explore local museums, zoos, or other attractions with kids.
While youre probably familiar with many of the major attractions in your area, visiting a site like Trip Advisor can help uncover some of the lesser-known venues that might be of interest to you or your kids. And for childrens museums specifically, the website Find a Childrens Museum is a great resource.
Theres no doubt that the cost of admission to these destinations can add up, but there are a few opportunities to cut the cost. First, check the attractions website to see if it offers a free or reduced-rate admission on select days in the summer.
Another option is to see if your city or town library offers museum passes passes that offer admission at a reduced rate for library card holders.
Finally, Bank of Americas Museums On Us program, available to the banks customers, offers free admission to over 225 cultural attractions around the United States on the first full weekend of every month.

Here are a few tips to make camping a success with the kids during summer.
Pick the ideal camping spot.
You want to choose a spot that will meet all your critical needs such as running water, toilets, easy to set up the ground for your tents and a fireplace
Let the kids take part in the planning.
Bring the right gear for you and your kids.
Nights can get chilly and you want to make sure that you have the right clothing for comfort. You might also want to make sure you bring other items such as a torch to navigate through the night as most camping sites might be electricity-free.

Summer Activities To Plan At Home Or In Your Neighborhood
Go on hikes or nature walks
If there are trails near your neighborhood, throw on some boots or athletic shoes and soak in the sights and scents of summertime nature with the whole family.
Paint rocks
The creative possibilities are endless with rock painting. The only cost associated with this idea is craft acrylic paint and painting supplies. Acrylic paint is cheap, fast-drying and has a thin consistency to it, making it perfect for rock art.
Have a picnic in the park
Break up the routine of dinner in the dining room by making a travel-friendly meal and enjoying it with the family at a local park.
Play water balloon baseball
If youre not afraid of getting wet, you can really make a splash by organizing this backyard or park activity this summer. Even older children might like the idea of blasting a water balloon with a plastic bat. Maybe the losing team has to pick up the balloon pieces after the game?
Set up an outdoor relay race or obstacle course
An outdoor relay race with household items is another way to break a sweat in the backyard. Get creative with clothes hampers, hula hoops, pool noodles and floaties and more, and let the games begin!
Plant an herb or vegetable garden
Disguise a potential life skill as a family activity by planting an herb garden outside. Starting herbs from seeds is relatively easy and can be done on a budget. Plus, its a cheap way to fill up your spice rack later. Common herbs like basil, rosemary, oregano, dill and sage are all in play here.
Build A Backyard Obstacle Course
Construct a backyard obstacle course with hula hoops, jump ropes, sticks, stones, hoses, and other materials from around the house. Your kids can take turns completing it-and the person with the fastest time wins a prize!
No campground? No problem! Pitch a tent in the backyard and spend the night underneath the stars. This free summer activity has one major benefit over normal camping: There’s a working toilet merely feet away!

Ride Bikes On A Local Bike Trail
Bike trails are increasingly common in U.S. and European cities and towns. These trails, which are often converted railroad paths, make it easy to ride bikes with kids as cars are less of a safety issue.
But even off the road, kids still need to wear helmets and understand common courtesies and rules when biking alongside other cyclists.
The best way to find bike trails near you is to check out Trail Link. Simply enter your zip code and youll be taken to a map of trails near your location. Note that while many trails are paved in asphalt, a number are listed as consisting of dirt, gravel, sand or a combination. Make sure everyones bike is appropriate for the conditions of the path you choose before beginning a ride.
