Final Day Of Visiting Omaha Kids Attractions Sunday

Things to do in Omaha Nebraska!

The weekend activities of things to do in Omaha with kids has flown by and now it is time to think about heading home. If you are flying, try to get a late afternoon flight so that you can visit one more spot before leaving. Want to discover how your kids can fly for free on your trip? We have put together a full list of what you need to know about kids flying free on Southwest.

If you are driving, plan to leave after you let your kids burn some energy at the Omaha Childrens Museum. The museum can easily be an all-day adventure but since this is departure day you will only probably spend a morning here. No worries you can see and explore the museum in a half a day, that is what we did.

Omaha Childrens Museum

The Omaha Childrens Museum is a must when bringing your kids to Omaha. The interactive exhibits will keep your kids occupied for hours with play areas, ball areas, building areas, and traveling exhibits.

You should plan on spending at least a half day here but really could stay and have plenty to occupy your little ones with for a full day. Both of my boys favorite exhibit was the Science and Technology area that was full of ball machines that made the balls disappeared and then reappeared in different areas with the use of wind and pressure. Dont miss any of the activities and make sure you have a plan before rising by reading our Omaha Childrens Museum: Visit With Kids dedicated post.

Immerse Yourself In Czech And Slovak Culture

Quentin Farley / Nebraska Tourism

Eastern Nebraska is home to a large Czech and Slovak community thanks to an influx of immigrants who journeyed to America in search of a new life and decided to settle in this Midwestern part of the country. An educational center and cultural museum celebrates this ethnic heritage through costumes on display, books, artifacts, polka music, traditional glass beads, ornaments, and Easter eggs. Make sure to sample a delicious kolache pastry or three in the on-site cafe. If you can time your visit to attend, Omaha also hosts an annual Czech-Slovak Folklore Festival each spring.

As you drive west along Interstate 80 and look up to your right, you’ll see two locomotives perched on a high bluff. If your curiosity is piqued or you are a train buff, make a detour to visit Kenefick Park.

Here, you’ll find the world’s largest diesel-powered locomotive, the impressive Centennial 6900. In addition to being the largest diesel powered locomotive, it is also the largest ever built. Since the park is all about extra large locomotives, it only makes sense that Kenefick Park should also have the world’s largest steam locomotive, named Big Boy No. 4023.
