Spend A Day At The Races

Connecticut is home to one of the countrys oldest and most unusual racetracks, Lime Rock Park. Set in a rural, remote corner of the state, the park allows spectators to get close to the action in contrast to the concrete jungles youll find at most race venues, this road course offers plenty of green space for picnicking. Founded in 1957, Lime Rock served as the longtime racing home for legendary actor and racing enthusiast Paul Newman. Events take place at the track on many Saturdays throughout the year.

We received the sweetest emails, like this one! Thank you Jordan and Kim for being our biggest fan!

Hello Kathy,

My name is Kim Davis. I am writing in regards to possibly being put on a monthly mailing list where you can send me your magazine/brochure when they are printed each month starting with the May 2020 issue.

My son Jordan who has severe autism and is non verbal is obsessed with your little brochure and we constantly have to go running around to different places trying to find them. It’s not an easy task with my son especially if they do not have any so I was hoping mailing one to me each month is possible. Believe me, if my son is obsessed with something it definitely is a compliment.

Thank you for any help you can give. It’s truly appreciated,

Kim Davis

What To Do In Connecticut: Charles W Morgan

What was once a mighty 2,700 ships-strong American whaling fleet, consists today of only one ship: The Charles W. Morgan. This magnificent tall ship was launched in 1841 from the Jethro and Zachariah Hillman yard in New Bedford, Massachusetts. At almost 107 feet long and with a beam about 27 feet wide, the ship carries 7,134 square feet of sail and used to sail with 35 sailors from around the world.

The cramped, stifling hot quarters for officers and men were below the deck. After five years of restoration, the Charles W. Morganset out in 2014 for its 38th sail to New England ports-of-call, as a magnificent reminder of America’s glorious maritime heritage.

And An Extra #: Autumn Colors

So what about the fall foliage? Leaf-peeping, as its sometimes known? I couldnt possibly write about Litchfield Hills highlights mentioning the change of seasons.

After all, experiencing the colors of autumn is a primary driver of visitors to the area. And for good reason! New England is known for fantastic displays of red, orange, and yellow leaves, and the Litchfield Hills doesnt disappoint visitors.

But heres the thing: Everything on this list, with the exception of skiing, is more beautiful, and more impressive if you come in September or October. Youll LOVE the drive to out-of-the-way Thorncrest Farm because youll pass fantastic scenes along the way.

Campbell Falls is fabulous when nestled among the colors of fall. You cant make it to Arethusa Dairy without passing by beautiful vistas. You wont be the only ones appreciating the areas beauty, but it will be worth every bit of hassle.

And the other parts of the year? Lets just say the area isnt lacking in charm, great food, and a multitude of activities to keep visitors entertained.

Go Fishing In Madison

It’s easy to miss this adorable spot, a tiny coastal town located about halfway between New York and Boston. Its perfect location, butting into the Long Island Sound, makes this a great jumping-off point for expectant anglers.

Head out to sea on a fishing charter or drop your line at Meig’s Point Jetty or WestBeach Jetty at Hammonasset Beach State Park. Spanning two miles of coast, this lush spot is the longest shoreline park in the state. Nearby Madison Lake ups the ante that you’ll reel in a big one.

When you’re sick of casting a line, head into town to soak up the historic charm and grab a bite to eat at one of the family-owned restaurants. Main Street is endearing, lined by preserved historic buildings dating back to the mid-1930s, and often the site of a farmer’s market and outdoor concerts when the weather turns warm.
