10 Fun Things to do in Massachusetts with kids

Its no secret that Gloucester has a rich seafaring tradition. Home to one of Americas oldest fishing ports comes with its ups and downs. Over the years, the town has lost many mariners to the Atlantic and in 1925 the iconic man at the wheel was constructed to honor their legacy.

The eight-foot-tall bronze statue rests upon a five-foot base and is inscribed They That Go Down To the Sea In Ships, 1623 1923. Its a powerful reminder of the power of the ocean, human mortality and the brevity of our time. Being tossed at sea in a modern vessel can be nerve-wracking, its frightening to imagine being miles off shore in an old schooner.

Mit Campus And Museum

20 Things to do in Boston, Massachusetts | What to do in Boston Vlog

Massachusetts Institute of Technology is another popular place to check out during a visit in Cambridge. Interestingly, MIT was founded in 1861 to spearhead the countrys industrialization efforts in the late-1800s. Not only is it among the nations top universities, but it also has one of the coolest campuses, featuring an interesting mix of historical and modern buildings.

While youre there, be sure to stop by the MIT Museum where science and technology meet. Its definitely one of the best things to do in Cambridge, MA, and heres why:

This museum offers all the things for which this Cambridge-based university is known for: robotics, holography, and more. Exhibits also cover the history of MIT, Cambridges maritime heritage, and other art and technology collections. In addition, the MIT Museum hosts a variety of community outreach events throughout the year, including the Cambridge Science Festival.

While youre at MIT, dont miss the Ray and Maria Stata Center by Frank Gehry. Ive seen lots of cool and quirky buildings around the world, including others in Gehrys collection. This one definitely stands out!

Though Im drawn to the red bricks and colonial architecture of the Harvard campus, I really enjoy the unconventional buildings at MIT. Its an interesting contrast for sure!
