Luna Church And Baluarte
Visit some of Lunas remaining heritage sites. The St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, also called The Shrine of Our Lady of Namacpacan or Namacpacan Church, stands beside the town plaza. This Spanish-colonial church was built in 1690. It is one of the grandest churches in the province. It is listed as a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines. A few hundred meters away, the Luna Baluarte or Watchtower stands along a pebbled beach. The watchtower served as a fortress that was used by Spanish colonizers to warn residents of pirate attacks.
During my visit, I, and travel buddy Gael discovered that the Luna Watchtower had been beautifully restored. The structure was fully intact and repaired from its ruined state after it got destroyed by a strong typhoon in 2015. Unfortunately, the once beautiful pebbled beach in this area had been over-mined by stone pickers. From the photos we had seen online, the pebbles used to cover the whole beachfront up to the waterline. Today, only patches of big stones remain. Its a shame because pebbled beaches are quite rare, formed by nature for millions of years. Now it is long gone.

How To Get From San Diego To La
There are two good options to get from San Diego to LA driving or taking the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train.
If you want to drive, take I-5 N for the fastest route.
The journey usually takes around 2.5 hours, sometimes more if theres heavy traffic coming into LA. You can book your rental car here.
The Pacific Coastliner train is a much more scenic option and one that I used to take all the time when I went to school in San Diego and came up to LA to visit my sister on the weekends.
This is probably one of the most scenic train rides Ive had the pleasure of experiencing and it takes about the same amount of time as driving and only costs $35.
You can grab Amtrak tickets online here.
You can also take a Greyhound bus .
The journey takes around 2.5-3.5 hours and costs $12. You can purchase a Greyhound ticket online here.

La Brea Tar Pits And Page Museum
Over tens of thousands of years until Los Angeles was developed, animals would be trapped and preserved in the tar at what is now Hancock Park by LACMA.
Heavy oil from the Salt Lake Oil Field would seep to the surface, becoming viscous natural tar as its lighter fractions evaporated.
The tar would be covered with a layer of water or dead leaves, waiting to lure unsuspecting mammoths, sabre-toothed cats, bison, horses and dire wolves and preserve them intact.
The pits have yielded some 400 animals and are an ongoing excavation site . The many discoveries are documented at the adjacent George C. Page Museum, which opened in 1977 but has a history going back to 1913. Here you can see some of the remarkable specimens given up by the pits and get to know the science behind the process, while in the grounds are life-sized models of the animals claimed by the tar.
At the turn of the 20th century the developer Abbot Kinney conceived a miniature version of Venices canals, marketed as the Venice of America.
Replenished by the Pacific through sea gates at the Marina Del Rey Breakwater, these cute waterways were built in 1905 but had become outmoded by the late-1920s and over the next few decades were allowed to fall into disrepair.
The canals were finally revitalised in the 1990s and form a highly desirable and pedestrian-friendly residential neighbourhood, roughly a quarter of the size of the original development.
