Things To Do In Breckenridge Colorado: Country Boy Mine
Country Boy Mine was once one of the largest gold mining operations in Breckenridge and is also one of the town’s most famous gold mines. The gold mine is no longer in operation, but is open to visitors for tours. The tour travels more than 1,000 feet into the mine and gives visitors the opportunity to imagine what it might have been like to work in the mine. During your visit to the mine, you can also pan for gold, feed and pet burros, and slide down a 55-foot ore chute. The mine has several exhibits and old mining equipment on display. There is a general store on site selling old fashioned candy, toys, books, and many different rocks. The interactive gold town experience lets visitors learn about the history of Breckenridge, get involved in a bank robbery and visit a the town Marshall.

The Barney Ford House Museum tells the story of escaped slave Barney Ford. Ford was born into slavery but learned how to read because of the determination of his mother. He managed to escape from the shackles of slavery and set out on a grand adventure that eventually landed him in Breckenridge.
Today his historic Victorian home has been preserved, and guests can take a self-guided tour to learn all about Ford’s life in Colorado and his fight for civil rights.
The home is chock-full of antiques and period pieces, and the home has been fully restored to its original style. Each room has a different exhibit that takes visitors along for the journey through Ford’s life.

When the first train arrived in Breckenridge in 1882, it altered the course of the towns future. The railroad continuously brought supplies and amenities to this western Victorian town until its demise in 1937.
Train enthusiasts delight in visiting Engine No. 9, a genuine original locomotive designed for narrow-gauge mountain rail operations. The engine and rail cars are part of a small curated museum that relates the history of the railway through photos and artifacts. And the best part is the museum is free.

The Breckenridge Rec Center For Visitors
The Breckenridge Rec Center is a hidden gem the received a 17 million dollar renovation in 2019. There is an indoor pool with a zero-entry for little ones and a lap pool for swimmers. In addition, there is a water slide, lazy river, rope swing, basketball nets, and a climbing wall.
To ease the aches from being so active, there are two hot tubs. The Rec Center also has tennis, a rock wall, and complete workout facilities. Visitors can come for the day, or get a punch card for multiple visits.
During our summer in Breck, we purchased a monthly pass to the rec center. The boys loved the aqua wall and rope swing and the older ones were excited to use the rock climbing wall.

Where Is Breckenridge Colorado
Breckenridge is located on the other side of Loveland Pass, west of Denver and Colorado Springs.
Its near other popular Colorado mountain towns like Dillon, Frisco, and Keystone.
And its pretty easy to get to Breckenridge. Just hop on I-70 west for about an hour and a half from Denver or 2 hours from Colorado Springs.
Or if youre coming from Colorado Springs, you can take Highway 24.
This route takes a little longer, but it carries you over the Continental Divide and Hoosier Pass.
During the winter check the weather forecast and road closures before you travel though.
In the winter, I-70 can shut down when big snow storms roll in.
This especially affects Loveland Pass and the Eisenhower Tunnel where youll be over 11,000 feet in elevation.
Weather can be particularly volatile and unpredictable at the Pass, so be prepared.
Youll reach the highest point while on your way to Breckenridge, but be prepared for the final destination elevation as well.
